CUCV 14 Bolt FF Rear Axle Housing ???

Does anyone know if there are any advantages to a 14 bolt Full Float CUCV Rear Axle housing over any other 1 ton or 3/4 ton axle housings? I happen to have a bare housing. I've taken the rear disc brake conversion off of it, the carrier and R&P have also been removed so when I say it's just a bare housing, that's exactly what it is. I mean, the pinion is still in it, but it was a chipped ring gear and I kept the carrier and locker for another project. Just wondering if it's scrap or if there is any value to it.

From what I can tell looking at mine, it’s the same. I just had the 14ff rebuilt in mine and all the regular 14ff parts fit in it. Also, the u-bolt cups that go under the axle tubes are the same, so I’d assume same axle tube diameter.

The housing itself is the same as a civilian axle. The only real difference is the locker.

So it's a K30 housing? Which means the perches won't fit for a 3/4 or 1/2 ton right? See, I was told an axle that I bolted into my K10 was a CUCV axle. It bolted right in. I guess next time I get out to my dads I'll try to measure the perch distance. This one for sure I know I came from a CUCV cuz I helped pull it and I pulled the 4.56 ring gear and carrier out of it. I kept the locker that was in the carrier though.

Right, same perch spacing as K30. They must have told you wrong about the other axle, or someone had relocated the perches and shock mounts.

Is that for DRW and weight bearing reasons? just curious why it would be less wide

Iirc, it's 40.5 vs 42.5 inch spacing.

For clearance on the cab&chassis duallies.

Also, I believe all the '67-'72 trucks with leaf springs used the 40.5 spacing too. In case that's useful info to anyone, lol.
