Interestingly, there are GM tech sheets that actually say to use the AC Delco coolant tabs. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...PA0kGG3tXgHMA1esiuLSoVp86-CUGtZgaAqrLEALw_wcB

These were used to solve micro-leaks from the factory.

I had a couple of head studs dripping on a new build. Apparently, the builder didn't seal them up well enough. I dropped in 2 tabs and after about 100 miles of driving, the leaks are gone.

The last job my grandfather did before retiring from the Wentzville GM plant was dropping those in radiators.

Interesting! I’ve never heard of those.

today, still on the struggle bus. Nasty engine vibration that increases with RPMs. I turned tail and headed back home.

Need to go back to the drawing board and see what I can do. Torque converter, flex plate clocked wrong, something else.

Correct balancer? Some stroker cranks especially forged cranks use only the 400 flex plate and a standard 350 balancer, this is how mine is.

I accidentally put a balancer with the weight on a 350 had 2 of the type with the removable weight grabbed the one with the weight not thinking about it, you should have seen how bad that thing vibrated.

It was a complete balanced kit from Northern Auto Parts, with pistons, rods, cast steel crank, flexplate and balancer. It was sold as one unit complete with a bob weight sheet.

Yah I can't recall ever seeing one of the kits having issues.

Does the vibration increase with speed or RPM? That'll tell you were it is generally. My 350 with the 400 balancer got worse with throttle input as it tried to RPM.

Yep, just like that. So it’s something that is the rotating assembly or something attached to it. And it still happens when not in gear so converter, to the front of the engine or something in between. Everything surrounding the rotating assembly is the same- accessories and pulleys, torque converter, etc.

I remember lining up the pin hole on the flexplate when the other two guys were there- it was the last thing I bolted on while it was on the cherry picker. But who knows- maybe in a moment of inattention I have it clocked wrong. But I’m not sure if that’s possible.

Intake reversion?

My friends dad’s 67 Camaro with a fresh 509 big block, had a vibration with rpm, pulled it and had the whole rotating assembly checked and rebalanced (I think there was a balance issue originally), reassemble and reinstall in the car and there is still a vibration with rpm.

C&S Specialties is local to us, so took the carb off (a brawler) and brought it to them explaining the situation, and how it runs rich enough to make your eyes water and they suspect reversion is the culprit. They are reworking and flow benching the carb to set it up for the engine. Yet to be determined if that is the fix or not. It does make sense though, it’s the opposite of scavenging and is kind of like tripping over your own feet.

I’m willing to entertain any idea at the point, but for now I’m going to focus on anything that might be a mechanical balance problem. I did replace the torque converter bolts- maybe they are heavier on one side. Or, before on the old flexplate I used the inner bolt circle, this time I used the outer. I just feel that there has to be something off that is addressable. Either that, or maybe just a bad balance job by the supplier, which in that case I have a 6-7k boat anchor because no one is going to help me with that.

Due to the pin I don't think you could put the flexplate on clocked wrong.

First thing I'd do before ripping into it to deep is if they gave you a weighted balancer I'd swap with a non weighted one or just pull it and, start it up and see if i the vibration stays or goes away. Don't run it long just long enough to see if it goes away or not.
