I am working on my 81 stepside, attacking it in 1/3s. From cab back has all new lines, frame cleaned and sealed , shocks and brakes. Next I am looking for a salvage yard cab. Any experiences or surprises if you have done this?

I would check with your state police of DMV first to confirm how vehicles in your state are identified. Here in California the title is based on the frame VIN. Others on the forum have said their state go by the cab.

Did this on a ‘91 F150 Ford a few years ago, replaced it with a year newer cab. I purchased the entire truck, so I got a title with it so the serial number wasn’t an issue.
Really wasn’t that bad, but a few differences with holes in firewall, a few harness issues. If you can find identical cab (year, trim, options, etc. ) piece of cake, just got to find some buddies to trick into the heavy lifting!
