Assuming it's as solid as it appears in the pic those are priced at twice that here and if a stepside even higher

It is a Texas truck though.

Yeah, that would change my first impression some. I think it's the rust on the bumper that grabs my attention the most. Hard to judge sometimes. You get used to seeing rust affect certain things, and leave others alone. Hell, the front bumper on my '87 looks like it left the showroom yesterday, even has the factory plastic lip underneath. Yet I have rust holes you could throw a cat through.

Maybe was parked under a porch with a bumper sticking out for 20+ years?

Or it's a cheap aftermarket bumper. I found they skip the copper underlay coating step and they rust fast!

That is a nice looking truck George. But it is a bit pricey. I showed this to my son. I told him after the truck is done it should be around that range. I went down through that guys list and ticked off the things we have replaced or rebuilt. He has me on the new bed but I suspect we are going that route also. And the nice paint, And the body work. And the rims. And so on....:whymewhyme: Oh well we will get there eventually. Hopefully.

Yep, slow and steady man! Very few can just write the check and get all these things done at once or even a fast pace LOL My dad and I split the cost of our build and even at that took us 7 1/2 years to even get it 95% complete and before you know it, it'll be time to tear her down (at least to some degree) and do it again LOL

Yes you are right. Think about it like this. I don't know what the cost of a paint job is where everyone else is at but around here it has been hinted at like $5000. I had a guy tell me the other day that he had one done for $3600 and that was because the guy owed him for something. This guy is asking $12500 for that truck. It is an 80's model with a 4 inch lift. It looks as good as the one George posted.

Having said that here is what I am figuring on as far as costs for the truck.
Paint job $5000 or DIY for around $1500 max.
Tires and wheels at around $1800.
A new bed at $1000 to $1500.

Well that puts me at the most $8300 or $4800 at the least. Now this does not include going into and freshening up the engine with new bearings and rings. It doesn't include pulling the 4 speed transmission and transfer case and rebuilding them as well.

So I think $12500 is a lot of money, which it is, I can seen why these guys are asking that amount. Or I could go buy a new lifted truck for $30000 +. LOL.

You've got it exactly, right, Don! Depending on how that truck started before he dumped money into it he could very well be taking some degree of loss there at $13,500 to be honest. This hobby is not cheap as we know LOL When I was ready to do paint on my truck I originally just took it up to the body shop "as-is" and got a quote. At this point it had 0 rust as I'd already replaced all bad metal but it did have a few dings and a couple of dents to fix prior to being sprayed. I got quoted $10k for that and about fell over. Long story short, I took it back home and took the winter to do all the body work myself and took it back all prepped and ready to go essentially. The color got sprayed for around $3k after that. The painter did do some sanding on my work as well as put a solid coat of primer over my work but I'm glad I did it. Saved us some money and was a good experience.

I was up against the same thing with my current project. I looked at a lot of trucks. $10,000 was my spending limit and I didn't really want a loan. Saw some trucks in that range with rust repair already done and I am always skeptical of the workmanship. The 2000-2005 trucks are all rusty and they go fast so inevitably it would happen again and all were over 150,000 miles already. So I started looking at older trucks. But the trucks from the 90s are holding a value around $5,000.00 and are also rusty with a bunch of miles. So I figured I would build another square incuding a back yard paint job for under $5,000.00 and at least know wha I have instead of starting at at that price and trying to fix it from there. Plus I really didn't want to be without a square body. It's my chance to have a classic toy with the added justification that its also a work truck.

See, this is what I call ********. How is a truck with rotted out cab corners and rockers worth that? it may be to some but it's not worth it to me.

And it's even worse when they want that much for a late 90's model. I had a guy drop his price by $3000.00 on the spot when I got half way through the list of stuff wrong that would require attention before it would be a reliable driver.

It's because it's a 3/4 ton late model with relatively low mileage. If that was a dmax it'd be upper teens in the exact same condition.

Your right and it will go to 300k miles so by the time I would be done fixing the body I would be 9 grand into it if I did it myself and have a pretty nice ride I guess. Mabey it's sour grapes because I can't justify spending that much on a truck right now. Thanks for putting up with my pissn and moanin.
