The ebay screenshot with the 283?

283's and 327's up to 1967 were small journals. I'm not 100% sure that small journals didn't have the plug, but examples that I remember didn't.

But I also remember other old junkyard wives tales stating things like that plug was only on 4 bolt blocks. I know that is 100% false.

I have a 66 283 block out of my Nova and it has the oil galley plug . After I got taken down , I went out and checked a couple of my 350 blocks, one had the plug and one didn't, so my statement went out the window. WTF do I know??

Then it seems that those plugs don't have any real leverage in identifying a block.

In my experience it's always cheaper to get a vehicle in good condition than to do a restoration. If you count your time as having value it's a no brainer to get one running, in good condition, from the start. Then you can start enjoying it right away as opposed to having so much time and money in a restoration, that the fun disappears. Believe me, building a truck can be a major hassle and a money pit. Ask me how I know...

3970010 is the casting so either a 302 four bolt or 350 2/4 bolt.

Every "0010" block I ever found was a 4 bolt 350.

It utilized the block from a 327 cubic-inch engine, and a crankshaft from a 283 cubic-inch engine, resulting in a 302.4 cubic-inch displacement. I had a 71 chevelle in high school with a 327 in it. Then bought a 70 chevelle about 5 years later also had the 327 in it too. Both ran really good and I beat the piss out of them. Lol, they held up well for me.

Every "0010" block I ever found was a 4 bolt 350.

I sold a 2 bolt 010 block years ago. The only reason I remember it, the guy who bought it said it was the first one he'd seen that wasn't a 4 bolt.
