So I am in the process of building my 350 4 bolt. The block will be going to the machine shop next week to be honed, decked, and hot tanked. I was going to talk to the guy at the machine shop on his input of what to do to the bottom end like what pistons, cam, etc. to run. I could use any input to run by him or think about before hand.

Build list

Aluminum Heads 200cc runner, 64cc chambers. 2.02 1.60 valve size
Edelbrock 650cfm carb... was thinking of going to a 750
Edelbrock rpm intake
Hedman long tubes

Any input would be greatly appreciated, this is my first motor rebuild for an older chevy motor. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the Dart 127322 heads. 200cc is awfully big runners for a 350. What about the 180s? (Dart 127122)

Guy built one like that on another forum. Used the Comp Cams 12-238-2, and loved it. 402 hp, 430 lbft, and a big broad torque curve.

Maybe a 2000 stall on that. Gives about 375 lbft at 2000. Yowzah!

Edelbrock 650 is plenty. A 350 pumps 550 cfm at 5500 rpm with a 1.0 volumetric efficiency, which you won't get. Too much carb will make performance go down, not up.

Thanks for the quick reply Rich! I actually already have the heads, bought them awhile ago, do you think it will hurt the performance running those heads?

Thank you for the input on the cam! The specs on the heads say it supports a cam with a much larger lift, should I be looking towards something with a larger lift or what? I am completely new to cams and such so I am trying to gain as much info as I can so I only have to do it once!

Also I am planning on getting 10.1 compression and the rear gears are 4.10s and its sitting on 38.5s, I heard this can make a difference!

I was planning on putting a stall in as well as a shift kit.

Thank you again for the input!

At 10:1 CR, I'm showing about 420 hp with 430 lbft with the 12-209-2 cam.

You should download the Camquest software (free from Comp Cams) and plug in some numbers. You can put the flow numbers from the Dart catalog right into the simulation.

If you have trouble setting up the parameters, let me know.

I would be more than happy with those numbers, I did plug in some numbers and got about the same results with a couple different cams. I do like how that cam does have a choppy idle to it. I know I know its not all about that lol

Should I call comp cams and ask what pistons to use with that cam or do you have any suggestions Rich?

Thank you again for the help!

No clue here. I'd call Comp Cams. Also, hopefully you will get some other responses here.
