frankenstien a square body on to a newer frame and drivetrain with front IFS. I think that would be the best idea for all around function and look of a lowered 4x4. unless you just want the look, then you would better off do a 2wd. You could swap out all the stuff, bolt, and weld it in onto your original frame, but it would probably be cheaper just to buy a burnt out 90s truck to put the square body on it. my old man put a 70 body on a 4x4 76 chassis and it wasn't to tough so I imagine it wouldn't be much more tough

I have seen this several times, you will need a few things to make it look correct. Make sure you can find some 15x14 inch wheels with low profile tires, you will need a chrome triple tube roll bar and a bunch of chrome off road lights as well as a taco shaped cowboy hat. Other good compliments to the southern Az style is scorpion stickers and adhesive applied accessories from Autozone.

Being serious now, I think its a cool idea. My K1500 started going in a hot rod direction before I gave it to my Dad, I did toss around the idea of lowering it a little bit. Not enough to require oil pan modification, I say hell yeah go for it. If camera phones were around in 2004 I could have had a picture of a C1500 that was lifted like 8 inches on 35's parked next to a 4x4 F-150 that was in the weeds low.

Using some box steel and rebuilding the front frame to make the front springs shackles set higher would`nt bee too tough, Kind of how the back frame works is done on the 2 wheel drives, raising the engine and modifying the oil pan then, using one of those low profile air cleaner adapters to put the air filter housing off to the side.
You might be onto something there, about lowering a 4X4.
