Hello everyone, thanks for reading. My name is Doug. I am a fabricator, machinist, electrical-electronic tech, welder etc. I like to build stuff. Everybody wants to buy what I drive! .....Having sweet memories of a Blazer my buddy owned back in the 70s, I was dreaming lately of restoring one. Background: I did own and refurbish an 85 Suburban, 3/4 ton. 454/400. What a beast. I also have restored a 1970 R/T Charger including a full interior & motor, painted myself. Also have owned a '88 K1500 which was a blast. Currently I drive daily Fords, a sweet '07 Ranger Level II & a F-150, and a crazy fast Challenger 6 speed with a lowered Eibach suspension running 20" tires. This thing will hurt your neck just from the G forces. Way too fast for most folks. It's only 2" off the ground! Used to have fun at the Texas World Speedway, I'll most likely be trading it of selling it to fund this project.

I have found a couple of possibilities for my new project. Don't want any fuel injection because of the ECU hassle however the newer Holley Sniper 2 looks promising. The few candidates that I have found are $ at 8 to 12K. Believe it or not these are projects that have already had the rust removed (R&R panels) or never had much to get excited about. Good for restoration type rigs. Both of the ones I'm looking at have been passed around through others who have not done anything, trades I guess which are crying for a home. Makes me feel sorry for them~ The trucks that is. Most down here are considered "mud buggies" and would/could never ever pass any safety inspection. Jacked up to the sky with empty beer cans stored in the back. Fun no doubt, but it's their last hurrah. It's hard to find something that has not been bastardized, molested, cut up & demonized. That's a project in itself. But that's the fun part. Hunting for that good candidate. I do appreciate someone's intentions however. The wife will love a nice interior and usefulness of a Blazer. So the eventual value will also be a nice thing.

I restore antique radios also, so I see what has happened by others and do spend quite a bit of time in attempt to bring back these chassis back to original condition.

Thanks all for your comments & expert opinions. Looking forward to getting to know you all in this forum. -Doug

Shiney paint does make me nervous. I normally park my rigs away from the door dingers.

Thanks for all your gracious replies! Here is a pic of one of these Blazers I've contemplating. $$ mid to high 4 figures. Seller says all it needs is a new engine, was set up for an LS I think. He's tossing in a Turbo 350. Now you can see why I'm so compelled........

Scrapes on the fender, paint missing under the door, engine bay not painted, no motor. Dent on front edge of door? Bondo? No door glass, im sure interior is gutted, cheap sidemarker lamps. Does it even have a core support or hood? Bumpers?

High 4 figures? Hard passs for me.

I'm looking at this as a interesting possible project. Just another "90% rust free" example of what's out there. Tapping on the typical areas will tell what's up, but seeing the pillar like that says volumes. The seller states that he has all the parts, which are "new". Most likely talk to the seller on the phone soon. I agreed with you about the paint, not perfect at first glance, quality? Almost afraid to say without seeing, but there is plenty I wish I did not see. Cost more to touch up than I would care to do. I'll inquire about the windows.

Look at the rust at the drivers A pillar. With time (alot, maybe 20+ years) somehow the rust came back to say hello. I see lots of work there. Seems like a bunch of painted over problems possibly, however I'm realizing the paint might be older than I realized. The floors are what's concerning me, but I'll have to drive 3 hours to see for myself. I'm good doing interiors, not stuffing seats, electrical & mechanical, welding, etc. Body; sheet metal not the best but my welding is good. So if the floors require a new $500 floor pan, install the cross supports & R&R it. Don't know just yet. I do know that it needs to be closed up and made weather proofed. The door & window gaskets I believe the seller has, he states that he has "all the parts", except a motor & a gas tank & delivery system. I'll post more here when I find out more.
