Did you look to see if you have the Beast or the GM Smart shell? Get some pics of the Sunshell. The back of it face down, and then the inside of it face up.

Hmmmmm, buddy, I'll have to do some more research and look at some more pics to be sure, but I do believe that is the Beast and the Vette Servo. . Just might be saving you some cash. So you don't see any sign of chewed teeth on the Sunshell, or cracks going the around the ring with the teeth ring meets the shell?

I don't see the holes like the Beast has, but it could be an older Beast. Is there any #'s or markings at all on it? the Beast will have some numbers stamped into it. On the face down part toward the outside edge.

Yeah, I"m thinking that's bad enough it needs replaced. You need to scrap that drum. When that wears down like that, it affects the travel of your servo, and being the 2-4 band has common issues, it's just not worth pissing with. Also the coloration says it got very hot and could be heat checked or lost it's temper and not be as strong now.

OK I'll check in the morning at the sun shell for numbers and the shell looks to be perfect

Bottom of the sun shell

You see this comparison photo? Look how thin the ring or teeth with the one on the left, then look how much meat on the Beast on the right. You're looks like it has more meat, and I can't tell for sure, but yours also looks like it has a little step right there at the base of the ring with more meat. That would be a Beast type shell I'm thinking you have. If it's not, then I'd have to wonder if it's a China made hardened shell. Also looks like your was run without a thrust washer behind it. Look at the scraping there. There should have been a flat washer there. Maybe you took it off for the pic?

Here is a comp photo.
