I live in Maine and just ended up with an 86 Silverado it's super clean and rust free. Down side is there isn't any heat. So every morning looking out my windshield, is like looking through a sliding glass shower door. What happened was the guy before me ripped out the ac unit and now my firewall has a big square that needs to be covered. I don't know how to go about it because the ac pump isn't there I don't care for ac but it sounds like it might be easier to just put ac back in it than rig something up so the heater works. What do I need where do I start.

If you just want functional, fab up a sheetmetal duct so the blower motor can actually move air to the heater core.

This would most likely be the quickest solution.
If you don't want AC you can install a non ac heater but you will need a plate to block off some holes and will need to drill some holes. Just take everything including the controls from the donor truck and if possible a section of the firewall to use as your plate or a template.

I'd have to look it up again, but there is actually a company that sells an AC delete cover. Just bolts on without any firewall surgery and resembles a factory heater box.

you could probably booty fab one up with sheetmetal, rivets, and rtv for alot cheaper though.

or get a new a/c air box from the junkyard and just plug up the two holes where the evaporator lines go though
