So I'm new to the forum...having trouble with my 73 3/4 ton. Just did a diesel swap on it,I went from a 454 to a 6.2 diesel but having tuable with my top speed. I'm gettin about 50mph top speed on my 4 speed manual. Just asking for help to figure out what I need next for a higher top speed. Thanks for the time and ure help.
ya need 2.73's or 3.08's for any kind of mileage,, some here will differ in opinions....
i ran an a833 overdrive trans 4sp with 3.08 and that was perfect except for it didnt have granny gear for heavy loads to get them rolling,, but i swapped it out for a 465 4sp and 2.73's which is the factory set up for some diesel trucks... 1900rpms@70mph.... it will have granny gear and the rpms will be 200 rpms higher for towing in 4th,, dont sound like much,, but 6.2's need to be in the sweet spot.. 3rd was to high for towing and 4th was to low with the a833 overdrive and 3.08.....
i had a suburban with a 6.2 700r4 and 3.40's and that thing sucked the fuel and didnt go very fast and sounded like the motor was going to blow up....
6.2s are low rpm high torque motors,, out here in farm land,, alot of farmers put 3.73 gears with a 6.2 and it will tow a gooseneck 12 horse trailer loaded through the mountains just fine,, but 6.2's dont like the rpms and the motors blow up,, ive collected quite a few...........
i would say off the top of my head your truck more than likely has 4.10's and the 6.2 will blow up really fast with those kind of rpms going down the road.....
