Sounds like a 350 Pontiac.

Part of me wanted to destroke a 350 to 327 for my old S10 with a 3X2 carb setup for a street screamer.

Chevy 302s and 327s are my favorite engines. I'm not huge on strokers....unless you are building it for towing and such.

I just found out a little more on the engine I am looking to get. The heads will have to be replaced. They are warped, well just one side but I will swap both.

He said the engine ran fine before didn't smoke or anything. So hopefully everything works out with it.

How much are you comfortable spending to get the new engine in your truck?

1/8-mile Drags:
1970 Hemi Cuda, 425 hp @ 5000, 490 lbft @ 4000
1970 Chevelle LS-6, 450 hp @ 5600, 500 lbft @ 3600
1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1, 350 hp @ 4600, 510 lbft @ 2800

Winner: Buick GS. No kidding. In the 1/4-mile, the Chevelle LS-6 and the Hemi Cuda came back to pass the Buick as they got into their higher horsepower, but the Buick had them cold in the 1/8-mile. The 1970 GS was a stoplight monster, with peak torque coming on much earlier than the two supercars. You quickly learned not to mess with those damned Buicks on the street, no matter what you drove.

You brag about horsepower; you drive torque.

Basically spending as least as I can. But I want to do it right.

I'm pretty sure a fill gasket kit is going to be like 75 bucks. Figure oil, filter, coolant, thermostat and topping off the trans after pulling the cooler lines will be another 70.

Maybe is you are lucky you could skim through a junk yard and find some decent heads and maybe some.ramhorn manifolds if you can't find a cheap setup on craigslist. There is literally 2 sets of headers for free by me and quite a few 50-75 dollar aftermarket intakes. As far as head there always seems to be non TBI 350 truck heads for less than 50 bucks.

Well honestly, I am wanting to just put my intake, and heads from my 305 on over to the 350. But this could all change once I get the engine and really see what I am getting into.

The 305 heads have significantly smaller chambers. Its going raise your compression considerably.

Yeah, I have heard some people say it can lead to detonation problems/overheating. But then others have no problems at all.

Quadrajets are all I do at my place now. Except for trying to keep all of mine going.
