I’ll go get some better angle photos to show. I don’t know the first thing about catalytic converters other than everyone steals them for some reason
Also the smell thing you mention is one of the reasons there is concern its bad. The smell of rotten eggs by chance describe it? or maybe sulfur?

Sulfur dioxide if memory serves is created if gasoline is able to get to the converter, which is very possible if you run rich and have a converter not to temp, for example. instead of breaking down hydrogen sulfide over platinum in the converter its combining into that sulfur dioxide which is foul smelling

but the smell of oil burning, the smell of interior to the cat components breaking down, etc may have various effects i dont describe here

It was not a sulfur smell, it wasn’t a foul smell at all. It more had a burn your nose hairs out and burns your eyes aroma.

that sounds foul to me, but that could be region difference in how we would use words. Something that burns eyes, in my experience, was hydrogen sulfide, when a battery was overcharged in an enclosed area. that gas was used in wwi lol. Smells like rotten eggs to many.

But I dont know about the others. The only smell I have had out of tailpipes weird was old gas, really old gas, really old gas and no converter, and kerosene in gas engine for minutes after engine flush(leaky valve seals), and also this weekend when I chased my spark plug threads on my f150 and the deep creep I used to lubricate the threads was in the cylinders I presume and just made a weird smell kinda like insect fogging stuff.

I was using foil to refer to stinky or bad smelling but this didn’t have as much of a scent as a just burned the nose and eyes. It wasn’t a sulfur smell, I’ve had a battery sulfate and stink the whole yard.

id say the odor either is something not super obvious to you or the gas was just not very odored I guess lol. but that means its something very strong and thats not good

Leaving the shop today I was coasting down a hill in second (no throttle applied) and the teuck popped a couple times, more aggressive like a backfire just not as loud

I also noticed kinda a sluggish to a certain range in gears before the truck “took off” like yesterday after I shifted to second the truck just kept there u til about 35 mph then it “kicked in?” And took off. Could that be advance in distrivutor? And could advance in distributor not working cause my idle to always stay high when pushing clutch in or taking truck out of gear?

Hesitation
sounds like a plugged exhaust too, just couldnt move until something gave or shifted and then vroom the power came. i would look at the distributor if it was the mechanical setup but your truck doesnt have that for advance. but you have an OE distributor, yes? there was the TSB on that i posted, if you have the oE one, get a upgraded one per the tsb or etc.

I haven’t had as much time to focus on this truck I’ve been wrapping things up on the k10, just finished the full exhaust out the back(still have exhaust leak in front ffs) the truck has ran decent but still have the occasional popping when coasting down hills in gear. Loading up on fuel? I’m not very sure on what is and what isn’t supposed to be how it is. If you know what I mean. I’m learning how very different the 87 and 78 are.

So you’re saying I may have “PROM” issues and the front axle off center is normal? I wouldn’t doubt the axle off center being normal if my truck hadn’t been totaled forever ago

Well the axle thing, your fender was pushed in right? If the axle is okay, it means the rear axle itself is offset and that if you were to compare the front to it, you would think the front is offset. I don’t remember the situation but it may be 100% normal. We can look more closely if need be but I saw that and thought about your truck
