My truck since new has been wired and carried a slidein camper, at least for the first 25 years or so. Fill the tank on way to camp, fill tank as soon as possible on way back! Never been stuck or been in "the bad stuff" It's led a cushy life! Lol

This isnt the best pic but will give an idea of it. Just happened to have this on my phone. Everything looks like angle iron and welded together and welded to the frame
That's a very well constructed shade tree platform hitch. Unless I'm mistaken, all factory option GM frame mounted platform hitches were bolt-on.

Here is my 77 k20 suburban factory hitch.

My '78 has the very same one. As did my old '86. They are constructed a bit differently than the ones from Curt and the like.

Well that makes me think mine has an add on weight distribution hitch.

Back in the 80's I went to a business called Hitch-master to get a hitch, they "made" their own custom hitches. The stuff they made looks exactly like your picture.

Absolutely (as I mentioned in post #3).

There was no welding taking place on the frame line. Only rivets and bolts.

glide-out spare tire carrier?
I don’t think a factory one will. I have an aftermarket curt one and it comes down farther and does clear the spare tire carrier

Thanks for the info, not a lot of glide out carriers out there. Also I have twin tip exhaust that exits behind the left fender on the Stepside, is that unique to the glide-out carrier? Not much room for a reciever
Might you have a picture?

Oh wow! That's cool!

Dual tailpipes were an option, but I guess original stepsides got that heat shield thing too? I don't remember seeing that before, but in Ohio original exhausts rotted out after just a few years.

Thinking it might be unique to the carrier

I've seen the factory dual tailpipe setup before, I believe it was available with a standard tire carrier too. But that heat shield, it looks like it may be there to keep you from burning your leg, since that's an open area on a stepside truck.
