I picked up a 14 bolt ff with NON-slide on drums, pumpkin housing is ribbed top and bottom. (was told it was out of a 80s truck, unknown if swr or dually)

I've taken some measurements, below is what ive gathered:
WMS-WMS = 67"
Backing plate flange to flange = 54"
Shock mounts are 31" oc from each other
Leaf spring perches are 47" oc from each other.

The hub is a swr hub, not the dually.

I plan on using this to replace the 12 bolt truck axle, and understand that the perches would have to be re-welded. I just want to see if there is any other information I am over looking because this is my first axle swap.

Seems to be from an '88-'98 style truck.

Oh, and 2wd. I believe the 4x4 version would be closer to a 69" wms-wms.

That’s what I was coming to the conclusion of being that year timeframe. I appreciate the feedback.

Those leaf springs should be 64" or whatever also. Rather than 56" like used in a squarebody.

Could I just use the 52” springs I have currently in my 12 bolt or would I need new springs / hangers?

You can definitely use your old springs. I just mentioned the length of those springs in case you weren't aware they were different. I figured you did, but just in case. Those longer springs have a little bit of value to some people. They can offer more suspension flexibility while retaining load capacity.

okay I didn't know that, but I will keep that in mind. I'm still not sure if this is a c&c axle or a srw. I know the hubs are srw.

Did a little clean up to see if there were any other identification #s anywhere but I didn't find anything.

I'm not familiar enough with the later axles to say for sure, but that should be a standard SRW axle, probably from a 3500. A dually axle should have dually hubs for even bearing loads, whether it be a cab/chassis truck or a fleetside dually. I'm not even sure there was a narrow width dually axle in those years?

I couldn’t find any information in the “bible” other than the hubs are interchangeable and the housings are basically the same.. but no measurements for flanges, etc.

Example: my 12 bolt truck has 58” flange to flange
Wms of roughly 66”

This 14 bolt is 54” flange to flange
Wms of 67”

I do appreciate the feedback and haven’t really found any solid info other than your posts. I will start with the perches / shock mounts and move forward from there with a disc conversion more than likely

Iirc, the Bible pertains mostly to the squarebody years. With them, the sing and dual wheel 14ff's are indeed basically the same. But the flanges are in a different location to accommodate the different hubs. There wasn't a wide 14ff because the D70 was used.

In the '88-'98 style trucks, I believe all the duallies were a wider, 14ff axle.

Holy crap. My head hurts now, lol. There were oodles of variations in the later years. I looked up a '90 3500 axle on car-part.com.

I forgot about the straight/splayed frame thing. Straight frame would be a cab&chassis truck. Splayed frame is with a standard pickup box. Yours is a splayed frame axle. SRW. I'll do more digging to figure out if it's 2wd or 4x4.

Well I’m sorry for the headache but I’m glad I wasn’t going crazy trying to figure this out. It came with 4.10 gears maybe that will help narrow it down. With a splayed frame and the 4.10 it appears to be 4x2.

I’m very thankful for the help, I couldn’t find anything being new to axle swapping but I was told the 14 bolt ff was the easiest to rebuild/setup.

There's a cool GM truck axle tutorial online somewhere as well, maybe search for it.
But as long as it's srw hubs, cant you just measure the important stuff compared to the axle you're removing and decide what to change/swap/move to make it work. Doesn't really matter what it came out of since you now have it and as long as the gear ratio is the same (going in the K10, presumed).

I was just trying to make sure I wasn’t just sinking a ton of money into a paperweight if it wasn’t going to be compatible. I will continue to look for tutorials, and yes it’s going in a k10. Gears will match.
