I had a Detroit Locker in a work truck and it wasn't pleasant on a slick surface. It will push the truck straight forward when turning until you let off the gas pedal.

A much better locker for the street would be the Detroit TrueTrac, and I'd suggest a carrier bearing billet steel cap for the driver's side and installed with studs - which will make the rear stronger. It prevents gear deflection the same as the support covers help with.

A truck 12 bolt uses a smaller pinion shaft diameter compared to the car 12 bolt rears, so it isn't quite as strong ( making car to truck comparisons invalid). A 14 bolt semi-floating rear axle is the next step up , then the 14 bolt full-floating as the "top dog".

Stock the 14 bolts are both an 8 lug wheel setup, some 14 bolt SF's are 6 lug.

If you upgrade to an aftermarket; differential , gears, axles , and reinforce the carrier bearing cap ( no need to do both caps) - the 12 bolt will be very stout. But unless you are changing the suspension to aid traction and weight transfer, along with sticky tires - all of that will not be necessary !
