Here's the update. Finally located a box that matches up correctly. Pulled it off of a 73 firebird or a trans am, couldn't tell exactly, and everything matches up on it perfectly. It was a sport model so I think that's the quick ratio box I believe? Seems to be just under 3 turns lock to lock...
Ya that's really not a bad idea at all. Definitely worth looking into. And it would be really nice to actually find parts for just a truck instated of a truck and a car
Is that so? Since welding isn't something I've taken up yet the day is out of question. But besides the frame work, what's involved? I think I'd be much happier if it wasn't a different front end. Any rough guesstimates on the dollar amount?
No not yet. Long story short just haven't been able to get my hands on one yet. But I'm also considering attempting to rebuild the thing there's some good info here on how to do that.
I'll be looking into those without a doubt. The number on the gear box is apparently a common one for several gm cars, not trucks. As for what is is exactly not sure yet. Unfortunately the junkyards around my area lack pretty much most late 60s early 70s vehicles. At least I'm heading in the...
Assuming you're right, which I'm going to for now at least, is there a way to verify that anywhere on that front end or even just the generation of vehicle it came from? And also, I'm going to guess that the pump is original to the motor, which I believe is a 75, and if the gear box is off a...
Here's what I've taken thus far for photos. If anything in there looks familiar that's out of place, please do tell, I'd love to know what's going on

The adapters went on well and allowed the wheels on with no problem. And I'm thinking that the front end has been swapped out with something else, so that's a very real possibility. The next problem solving involves figuring out what in the world has been put in there. The front portion of the...
That would explain other issues as well. With this being my first truck of this era, didn't know any better that a lot more than than the motor and trans were changed out. Does that gear box or piece of frame look at all familiar to anything.
Hello all! I figured I might as well do a late hello/intro, better late than never! Picked up my first Chevy pickup a while ago that's been a bit of a project truck finishing the job and fixing, everything, as I go. She's a short bed std cab with a 7.4/th400 swapped in. The thing needs some work...
Allow me to rephrase part of that first, its not litterally inside of the frame itself. By inside the frame I meant mounred on the engine side of the frame and not the fender side. And as for pictures, can't figure out how to load them up on mobile.
So the steering gear box blew a leak out of the seal in the back and the trouble is, the box is a mystery box. Its in a 76 2wd c 10 with a swapped in big block, but the box is mounted on the inside of the frame, instead of on the outside like all the other ones I have seen. Question is, how do I...
Ya that's exactly what it is which makes no sense to me especially because the rear is still the 5x5 pattern. If I just wanted to get my wheels to fit up front with the 5x5 how reliable are those lug pattern adapters?
I ended up going back to the junkyard and pulling the knuckles off of that truck and tried installing them into mine and they don't match in there at all. The tabs that stop you from turning too far on the lower control arm keep it from turning one way at all. My truck has been lowered quite a...
So what are the chances that the control arms and surrounding objects have been swapped out as well? And is there a way to tell before disassembling everything?
Well I'm stumped. I bought 76 c10 2wd and eventually found out that the front rotors, in terrible shape, have a smaller than the 5x5 pattern that should be on there, and only have roughly an 11" diameter instead of what I'm assuming is supposed to be about 12 . So then went to the junkyard to...
