1991 gmc suburban stock shock question

Just picked up a 91 gmc suburban 4x4 and now that I've got it on the road, it definitely needs some shocks. It's still got the quad front shocks but they could very well be the original factory ones. Rockauto has part numbers for inner and outer shocks, but I'd like to go to just one shock...

    Exhaust options for a 1990 suburban 4x4?

Anyone have any suggestions for exhaust kits for a 1990 4x4 burb? most shops in my area are quoting 1500-2000 to build a custom exhaust and the dynomax kit I ordered from summit was designed by a blind man the way stuff is fitting up.

Need help figuring out options for regear

I have a 90 burb (350/700r4) with a 6" ORD lift and 10 bolts front & rear. I run 35" tires most of the time with some 33" studded snow tires for winter. A previous owner (not the guy I bought it from, but the dude before him) installed 5.38 gears in the 10 bolts, which I'm sure are fine for 40's...

    350 tbi idle speed

Ok, so a little update, I replaced wires, cap, rotor & plugs. That didn't fix the issue. I went to reset the timing and noticed that the harmonic balancer must have slipped. When I try to set it to 0 degrees, it dies. It is still surging/dipping randomly at idle which I'm thinking isn't related...

    350 tbi idle speed

It also has a code 34 but I suspect that's due to low vacuum and not a bad sensor/wiring, so I'm still back at trying to figure out why the vacuum is so low. Everything is pointing me to a mystery performance cam that a PO installed.

    350 tbi idle speed

I’ve got a timing light on order so I’ll check that. So far no vacuum leaks that I can detect. I’m aware that low vac is a bad thing so I’m trying to diagnose it. The truck also will occasionally “pulse” at idle where I’ll put it in park, the rpm’s go back up and then bounce up and down...

    350 tbi idle speed

Also worth noting that I tried to reset the IAC multiple times with two different sensors and every time i end up getting a crank/no start situation

    350 tbi idle speed

Ok, so I replaced the o2 sensor and re-sealed the injectors and it’s still wanting to die at idle. Could there possibly be a mystery cam in here causing it to want to idle so low? I’m searching for a vacuum leak today since I hooked up a vac gauge to a manifold port and it was reading like 10-12...

Failed CO emissions-high CO and HC

Welcome from CO. I just moved up here and I'm working on getting my 90 burb emissions compliant. If you ever need a hand wrenching, give me a holler! I'm not an expert since I'm in your same situation right now, but you'll probably need to put the stock manifold back on, or at least one with an...

    350 tbi idle speed

Ya it does but I’ll probably replace that so as I’m about to add a cat back in to pass emissions

    350 tbi idle speed

So I’ve got this issue with my tbi 350. Normally at idle it’s around 700 at cold start in park and it drops down to about 400 in gear and will sometimes drop and rise and even die. I’ve replaced the iac valve and done the relearn procedure and still nothing. When I unplug the iac it’s fine...

Question about 1990 Suburban & emissions

@Vbb199 Awesome, that's just what I'm looking for. I know the truck also has long tunes and true duals so I may be looking at a whole new exhaust system.... And I'm definitely interested in being able to read ecm live data so any help there would be great. I think I still have to do a sniffer...

Question about 1990 Suburban & emissions

I'm moving to Denver/picking up a new-to-me 90 burb in the next week and I had a question about emissions. I'm buying the truck from a friend there who has it registered in a county that doesn't require emissions testing, but I'll be in the Denver metro area so I'll have to bite the bullet. I...

    Broken valve guide boss/pillar

It looks like it's part of the cast iron structure itself. I know the valve guides themselves are pressed in, but that extrusion that the valve seal slips over is broken off and that's what I'm worried about

    Broken valve guide boss/pillar

I know I’m going to need to get some machine shop work done on these heads I just snagged, but can they repair this valve guide boss/pillar that broke off? Or is there a way I could use a different seal for just this one valve?

    Colorado K30 ownership

Question for the Colorado folks on here: I'm currently daily driving my k30 here in Texas. Registration and inspection is easy and I don't think I get tested for emissions or anything, it's not registered as a classic or antique or anything. Is there anything I need to know before I move and...

    Ls Swap Checklist

Still haven't quite figured it out. I ended up putting the engine on a stand for the time being because I want to swap camshafts before the engine goes in the truck. plus this gives me an excuse to meticulously go through the wiring harness and label everything. I think I'll end up going with a...

    6.5" speaker mounting options

I'm in the process of re-doing the sound system in my crew cab and I was wondering where yall mounted 6.5" speakers. For reference, the truck came with a 4 channel amp and 2 10" powered subs. The amp was connected to 4 6.5" speakers and all of it was mounted behind the rear seat and wasn't done...

    Ls Swap Checklist

I guess another question I have is, I have two options right now that I've sourced from pick n pulls. One has the complete combo minus wiring harness and pcm/tcm. the other has complete pcm/tcm. both are 2wd transmissions (so I'm assuming I'll need a 4x4 tailhousing). If I went with the combo...

    Ls Swap Checklist

I'll probably end up going with some dakota digital gauges From what I've read, the 4L80e tailshaft is too long and you need a spacer to make up that difference or cut the tailshaft down.

    Ls Swap Checklist

LS Swap gurus, I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a 6.0/4l80e combo, but I want to make sure I've got my ducks in a row before I get in over my head Assumptions: 1. using stock pcm/tcm & wiring harness 2. engine and trans are running when pulled 3. comes with all accessories 4...

    Adding a Suburban Gas tank

Hell yeah, thanks Yes, but I'd like to keep an auto trans and for my needs, diesel would be cost prohibitive. I'm also not stuck on LS, I'd consider an 8.1 or possibly even a gen 6 454/4L80e if i came across one in decent condition for cheap. MPG isn't my main concern because I know I'm not...
