Did a full throttle pull from a stop for the first time with my current setup. The TH400 shifts a little above 3000 rpm unless I manually shift through the gears. This makes sense, since it was originally behind a 6.2 diesel. There’s a TCI kit that comes with a variety of weights and springs. Lighter weights equals higher shift points. I’ve read a couple of things that most people end up using their factory springs with lighter weights.

My question is, can I just shave my existing weights to achieve the same result?

I was looking at this kit:

I've never tried it, but it makes sense that will will lower governor pressure. Maybe try drilling holes instead of grinding. It's free to try, so give it a go. i'd be extra careful to not introduce any shavings or grinding materials into the trans.

I thought about drilling rather than grinding right after I posted. I planned on performing the weight reduction procedure with the weights removed. Never actually been into the governor before. Any pointers?

Damn, $92 for weights? F That. So you need a Gas Th400 Governor? I probably have 5 or 6 laying around. How much can USPS Priority Shipping Be? PayPal friend me the shipping and I'll send you a Gas Th400 Governor if it'll fit in the small Flat Rate Box and whatever else small parts you might need that'll fit in the box too. Don't spend no ridiculous money on a Governor, we got this handled.

The other thing you can try to delay the shift a bit, is turn the screw IN and tighten up the spring on the Vac Modulator.

Thanks for the Bump @Frankenchevy and tag @bucket. We don't like threads not getting attention and getting ignored. That's not what we do here. Sometimes it does take teamwork though.

You can grind or drill you weights. I've just been working on the governor in my Chevelle, close but not there yet. If you look around the Superior kit can be had for around $50, I think. Probably hunt down a lighter gas governor if you don't buy a kit. I agree $92.00 is way to much! If you have an adjustable modulator don't turn it in more than 2 or 3 turns.

Why? How would you know where you're starting from? Turn it all the way out, and then only go back in 2-3 turns?
Thanks

Thats why I said 2-3. Most of the modulators when new the screw is about flush with the end of the nipple. It verys with brands. If it's in close to .250" that's about it. Just tried on an old modulator. guess the bottom line is If you have to adjust it that much you need to be working on the governer first.
