The truetrac are geared- so I've never heard of them wearing out. In fact once the gears wear a "pocket" into the sides they work a bit better. And you just use normal gear oil. No friction additive.
In my previous truck I had the original design lockright in the 12 bolt rear end. Broke it. Then switched to an Auburn gear pro limited slip with the cone shaped clutch plates. Worked ok for the street and gravel roads. Not much for offroad. Wore that one out. Sold the truck.

A tru-trac up front works great for everything other than a dedicated trail rig. I ran a Detroit locker in the ff14b and a tru-trac in the d44 front of my K5 for many years. 35" tires, 4.10 gearing, 700r4, stock TBI 350 w/ vortech supercharger(5psi). Good gas mileage, plenty of power, went anywhere.
I have put tru-tracs in the rear of a few cars, my '63 Nova has one currently as well. They work great, don't push/pull in turns, plenty of traction.

I have broke axles, and stuff. But I know it's my weakest link for now. I do carry a couple parts for it with me.
The last time I had it weighed was at the recycling plant after dropping off metal. We all know they cheat us a bit. But it was just a tad over 6,000.

Thanks I assumed the Truetrac had clutch plates, like the old GM Posi unit.
My first fully (front and rear) locked truck had LockRight lockers. They were cheap but got the job done. I have no problem imagining them break however... This was my firewood truck I built back in my logging days (and it was a ford, shhh!)

Can anyone confirm that the late 80's - 91 Suburban/Blazers have 30 spline axles in their corp 10 bolt?
