The Columbus plant has been gone for at least 10 years now. Probably longer, but I've put it out of my mind. The place was always magical to me. Imho, it and the people within helped build modern America. It just looked so magnificent. They had a giant front lawn out on US 40 that was always well kept. They used to have a show every late summer out on the lawn that showed off the products from every division. '93 I think was the last year for that, due to the start of the Columbus Auto Show in '94. Grandpa and dad (sometimes just Grandpa) took me to the show every year. Those are still some of my best memories from childhood. Grandpa started there in '48 iirc. My good friend's father retired from there too.
It's a focking casino there now. Thankfully I rarely ever have any reason to drive into that area anymore. It's such a depressing sight.
