I have a 1978 1 ton with 4:10 gears that currently has a 350 with short tube headers, but hopefully soon we'll have a small block 400 and i'm going to put a rv cam in it and I'm looking to get advice on some exhaust that is fairly cheap, but I want that classic V8 rumble sound but not something that is loud and annoying at speed so would like to keep the true dull exhaust.

There’s a million ways to skin that cat, here’s my two cents…

Manifolds
2.25” (2.5” max) tubing
H or X pipe
Turbo mufflers
Exit behind the tire or rear of truck

Flowmaster sells somewhat affordable dual exhaust builder kits that are 16 ga aluminized tubing with enough parts to build an entire exhaust system. I got mine from summit with free shipping. things not included are flanges to mate to your headers or manifolds, or mufflers, clamps or hangers.

It’s a lot of work but decent stuff for the cost, you can clamp together or weld.

Other option would be take it to a muffler shop for an estimate.

I would suggest an RV muffler to match the RV cam :suicide:
