truck runs hot

i have a 89 v1500 4x4 350 engine has 40k miles on it the truck has always ran warmer then wanted on a hot day driving around it will get to 220+
airtex high flow water pump
fail safe 180 thermostat
new heatercore
heavy duty fan clutch acdelco brand
new temp sending unit on head and manifold
hyper tech chip witch allows for a 160 thermostat
truck still ran hot so i put on a cold case radiator witch is a oversized two row
still have the same issue any ideas?

forgot to mention i did install a mechanical gauge from o’reillys with the same results
i may need to try using a thermal gun to see if the gauge is accurate just assumed sense it was new it would be accurate

Not to talk **** on oreillys but they have a lot of garbage. I hate to say fork up some money for an autometer or equivalent, but. If you have a temp gun already that should work. I've just never got real accurate readings with that, as well as you can't monitor while driving.

I've heard some rads are too dense, and they don't cool efficiently. The cheap spectras don't last, but I've never got hot.

Also 220 is not terribly hot. If the truck is running lean it can cause it to run a little hot. Retarded timing. Since you said that it has a chip I assume it's fuel injected does it have a heat riser? If it does make sure it's working, if it's jammed shut all that exhaust passing though the intake can cause an overheat.

Also your fan clutch, did you get a genuine A/C Delco severe duty unit? Hayden makes nearly all the store brands and has moved a lot of it's production to china, and we have had enough issues at the shop with then that we order the A/C Delco units for these trucks now. Can you hear the fan clutch working? If not then it's either bad or the hot coolant isn't getting into the radiator.

Just my 2 cents but, I don't think a 2-core radiator is going to cut it.
Factory used two cores. But I also personally wouldn't use any less than a 3 core.

Another thing; Most cars will run cooler at idle and in stop-n-go traffic when you run direct manifold vacuum, not ported.

i’m running a cold case radiator and i have heard good things on them and yes i agree orrileys parts can suck

it’s a gm genuine fan clutch and it pulls a lot of air even on idle

according to cold case if you have air conditioning and oil cooler in front of your radiator a 4 tow won’t do you any good ?

Depends. I have an all aluminum 2 core and it cools my Vortec in 120 degrees with a/c on. Each core is 1-1/2 inches wide.

looking like i had two faulty gauges o’reilly gauge was reading 195 on idle factory gauge was reading 212+ used a temp gun i was getting 190 at the heads but figured that wasn’t accurate because it was picking up heat from the exhaust so measured at intake manifold near the ecu temp sensor and was getting 178
