@82sbshortbed we hear you. E’s truck was a wiring nightmare but slowly over time we have corrected most of it. Got the American Autowire headlight relay kit and hope to install that in next week or two. With instrument cluster back in and Vintage Air installed I can say we only have a few electrical head scratchers to go interior wise so we have come a long way. Matter of fact headlights are wired up wrong, when drivers side headlight is on high beam, yup, you guessed it low beam on passengers side! Can’t make this stuff up ! And it passed state inspection…

Your headlight relay kit may be screwed up. I bought a kit off Amazon and it was like that. And all my lights function perfectly on original wiring.
Found that the plug that plugs into the existing headlights plug was pinned wrong. 0 for 3. All 3 were in the wrong spot.
So if you have a cheap chenisum kit, that could be the problem.

Today, I finished up finagling the front new bumper with the wonky new brackets (Taiwanese stuff just doesn’t line up) and changed out the turn indicator bulbs. This one is for my dad, my recently deceased friend Jason, my cousin Jeff, and all the other friends I wish I could share my garage with these days. Where have all the good times gone?

The cheap lmc one I had was also pinned wrong.

Helped the guys from Transtar Autobody spray their new tintable liner last Monday before I left for Tulsa. Looks a little purple in the pictures but it’s nearly a perfect match to the dark blue stripe

Before:

Added a little something on the headboard:

Lots of sanding later:

Masked everything off and hit the bare metal with some etching primer:

And started spraying:

Took about 4 coats cuz this is the first truck they’ve done with this new product so they were playing with the gun settings and whatnot. This stuff should be out around April/May.

Finally replaced my driver side mirror, the old one was getting a little rough, and was home to a wasp nest. Took a while to find a painted mirror that wasn’t too bad. Some fresh paint and it’s good as new!

Took a load of scrap metal to the recycler, then came home and finished assembling the LMC tach kit. Need some more twist bulb sockets for the back, but went together without issue. Just wish LMC would include all of the necessary screws- was short a couple, even with reusing mine.

Same. I got the kit and was shorted, but got extra sockets from rockauto so that is nice. Half haven't lit up yet, but that's a task for another day... I have to finish my frontend, but LMC is taking forever to ship my order. Clock delete was a bonus because now I have no parasitic draw. Left it parked for like almost 2.5 months and it slapped right over like nothing.

I replaced both front calipers with a remanufactured set. The truck drives soooo much better. Apparently both calipers have been performing erratically for some time making me think I had more slack in the steering than I really had. They were original to the truck from 1987. They only had 62,900ish miles on them.

While I am completely satisfied with the brakes on this truck I am now thinking very hard about the Wilwood calipers as an upgrade. For now though, I am really happy with how much straighter this truck steers and stops.

And yes, if anyone is wondering I do Feel Stupid for thinking poor brake performance was steering slack. But the truck never did the same thing twice in a row so I truly thought I had something wrong in the steering. No wonder I never could get the d***ed steering wheel straight...

Had the same thing happen on a Jeep I owned. Weird stuff, like I needed an alignment or something. Then would go away like nothing happened.

It didn’t rear its ugly head up weeks later when I smelled it after parking. Only then I knew what was up. But it was so inconsistent and weird that it took me a little while.

My new headlights from lmc came today. I can't remember who posted the link but thanks a ton! I've been looking for led replacements but failed at every turn. But these are nice and should be able to put led bulbs in them. Made of glass too. I actually thought they were plastic and still bought them. So the glass lenses were a nice surprise. If you have the 4 side by side lights on the suburban grill I'd suggest buying these. It was 180 for 4 lights and 2 bulbs. Bulbs were cheap.

that was me that posted the link. to fit in any 90deg bulb on the outer low beams you will have to trim the headlight bucket behind where the light goes. I did that and swapped to 9012 bulbs. I may go to Diode Dynamics SL1 some day for LED. I'll be curious to hear about your experience if you swap to LED. the inner high beams you will also have to trim some off the core support to fit a 90deg bulb. but the 9005xs bulbs it came with actually do very good at lighting up the night.
