replacing power steering pump

im replacing my power steering pump and was wondering should i go reman or new and are any of these any good? also my truck has hydro boost and the remote reservoir if that helps any.

Unless you get joy from replacing the same junk reman part frequently.
Agreed. NEW don't even consider a reman, and if stuck in a position where you must install a reman unit don't get a cardone / A1cardone unit. Get a new unit and stick with known brands if at possible. This is one of my contentions with companies like NAPA sometimes it hard to know who makes a part branded NAPA. Anyhow NEW only.

Sure. From that list I'd get the Lares unit with the reservoir. It's up to you if you want to go with or without reservoir, but I perfer with because it's easier. The biggest issue with reusing the old reservoir is you have to be very careful not to bend it when your separating it from the pump, and very careful you don't snag the O-ring or push it out of place when reinstalling. And of course a mistake there requires pulling the pump back off.

Ok, Well then I'll give you my opinion on all the brands in your screen shot.

Lares, well known good brand.

BBB Industries manufactures parts that are typically rebranded into store brands, and they are typically make decent products, certainly I would pick BBB Industries over Cardone/A1Cardone.

Cardone/A1Cardone is widely known for making poor quality products, both new and remanufactured. Most of there stuff is rebranded into store brands, which sucks because sometimes you'll by a NAPA reman part and then after purchase find out it's made by cardone. My point is when buying auto parts it's worth doing a little digging to see who is manufacturing a brand.

AAE stands for Atlantic Automotive engineering. If I remember right they have a manufacturing plant in North Carolina. I've not used them enough to really give a valid opinion on them, but if the Lares unit won't work for you or you like made in the USA then I'd pick AAE.

Ultra-power is rebranded Cardone, I would not get this one.

Hopefully that helps.

After you replace it, also make sure you get all the air out of the system. The GM procedure is to lift the front tires off the ground using jack stands, and then with the engine running turn the steering wheel full lock-to-lock ten times. Then check fluid level. It seems like overkill, but my steering worked much smoother after I used that procedures.

I got a rebuilt pump from Oreilly's 4 1/2 years ago and still going strong (remote reservoir style).

I can't say so much for the rebuilt BBB steering box from Napa. In under 4 years I started leaking. I ended up getting a new Lares unit.

I have found AC Delco reman parts to be high quality and last a long time. At least that's true for starters and alternators. I've had one of each on a 69 C10 since around 2000-2002 -- probably around 40K miles.

Totally agree on the verdict to stay away from reman units. I went through two remans - Cardone and (surprisingly) ACDelco, in that order - before I finally ponied up the extra bucks for a Tuff Stuff 6188B. I also added an inline cooler, since I'm running 33's. The 1st two units seemed to barely be there - it was almost like manual steering, even after thorough bleeding and driving it for a few days. The Tuff Stuff has been there for a few months now, and seems happy, so that seems to be the one I needed. Mine came with the reservoir, and I had to be careful on the return inlet pipe location, since my PS bracket snugs up to the back of the pump. I think my brackets are from an 87-ish pickup - definitely not the stock '90 Blazer ones. Best of luck!

I also went through a few reman pumps, the hydroboost and 35” tires were killing them. Went with a PSC pump + remote cooler and that was the end of my problems.

AC Delco reman moans and groans and whines when it gets warm, but works well. PITA to change it out, so I just turn up the radio for now.

Not sure I understand the question. The PS fluid feed line from pump to steering gear is under pressure and it has threaded fittings, but the return line just has worm clamps because it has very little pressure in it. Big difference.
