Find a truck to put it in?

I've got one with zero miles on it, sitting under the work bench. I may put it in my K5, just because. But then I'll have a perfectly operational th350 sitting around... it's a vicious cycle.

Yep, the best course of action is to buy a truck that needs a trans :)

Problem is, once you go overdrive you can never go back.

Lol, false. I used to have a 2nd th400 sitting under the bench that was also a fully rebuilt K-case. Back in April, I installed that one in place of a perfectly operational 700r4 that was also a K-case and had been professionally rebuilt in the not so distant past.

So I swapped in the early (93) low first gear 4500. Now in "low", with 4:56 gears I'm redlining at about 12 mph. Lol. But it will idle up a redwood tree. I can't imagine what it's gonna be like with the t-case in low!

Conversion is 100% complete. Got the reverse lights working along with the neutral safety switch today.

Sold the th400 for $800. I'm going to use some of that money to rebuild my 2nd NV4500. It'll be nice to have a spare sitting in storage if ever needed.

@SDJunkMan ,

So what's your status? You still hoping or are you getting er done ?
The stepper has been put on the back burner. I was supposed to retire the first of the year, but was unable to. Hopefully this summer, then I can get serious about it. I have been gathering parts though, and may have found a tranny if I can convince the guy to part with the truck. I had found one right before Covid, but the yard shut down for a while and the next time I got over to it the trans was gone.

That sucks. The scamdemic really screwed things up.

Yeah, it did, but it wasn't the Covid, wife was diagnosed with cancer. Had to keep working to keep the insurance. The good news is that after an operation and chemo, they think she is cancer free. She goes in for a cat scan next week to be sure.
