I am wanting to buy some new wheels and mount a set of Cooper st maxx 255 80 17 that I have left over from my dually. Do you guys think they will fit without having any clearance or rubbing issues? My truck is stock without a lift 78 k10. Thanks.

In most conditions the should be ok with good fitting wheels. There is a potential for minor rubbing when flexed unless 2" lift added

I was running 33x12.5r15 without lift without rubbing on my 79 k5. The 255 80 r17 are a little bit taller than 33s but smaller in width. I think you should be fine.

Does anyone know what offset wheel you have to run on the rear with the drum brakes? I bought some Vision soft 8's from Discount tire in 17x8 to put my Coopers on. They are a -12 offset. Discount mounted them up and the rear wheels don't mount up squarely with the weights on the outside face of the drum. The tire literally wobbled back and forth. I didn't get very far before I turned around and took it back to them. They are checking on some different wheels in the meantime.

They let you drive away with the wheels wobbling?!? I would have had an issue with that.

The offset of the rim is probably not the issue, but rather the shape of the rim center. A pair of bolt-on type spacers in the rear would be the easy fix, imho.

This reminds me of when i bought my 90' gmt400 and it had 31x10.50x15s on 10" wide chrome wagon wheels (was so sexy) i pulled the rear wheels off to do a brake check and the PO tard had about 4 thick washers on each stud on both back wheels.... hows that for redneck spacers!

What size bolt on spacer would it take?

You only need just enough to clear the brake drum, but in reality, it probably needs to be at least 1.25" thick so the stock wheel studs don't protrude past the spacer. But, on the other hand, if it bothers you that the rear track width is narrower than the front, you can run something wider. I don't think you would need more than 2" to accomplish that.
