A big block chevy not including accessories is what, around 30-31” long and about 700 lbs. They sit about as far back as they can in these trucks. The Isuzu 6HK1 is 53” long and 1300 lbs. I’m not sure where you’ll find the extra 2 feet without getting really creative but by all means...

The 6 cylinder in question is gutless enough, I'd hate to drive one with 2 less cylinders.

I own one and although it would actual fit in the truck in question, it is indeed gutless. There seems to be no aftermarket tuners that offer box truck performance packages but maybe I just didn't google deeply enough? I learned a long time ago that the wheel doesn't need to be reinvented but not all of us got the memo.
