Anyone have a good specific Electrical diagram for the under dash wiring of an 84 C10/C1500? Paticularly the steering column components. Like the heavier guage Purple and Orange wires. I am about certain the Purple ends up at the starter solenoid, but that might be a differant purple.
Sportsmom and Mr. Sportsmom are trying to get this truck up and running for their son. Any help is apprciated. All I have is very very generic diagram and its not real good.

I can get the diagrams from alldata, but that's when GM had the entire truck all in one diagram. You have to put all the pages together like a puzzle.

Check it for continuity. But I am thinking the purple wire at the starter SHOULD come from the starter Relay.

That doesn't really at this point anyway. Here is the deal. Some has butchered up some wires under the dash. Some are obvious and they have used solderless butt connectors to rejoin them. There there are least the heavy guage Purple and Orange wires that are cut and no idea where they go or what to. It appears they may go over the steering column, but to where, and or do they actually go to the steering column???

Turn the ignition switch, not a thing happens. No lights, nothing. Also don't have head lights or power windows. All the front nose wiring appears to be intact and not cut. Park lights come on up front, but no headlights, and no power from the igntion switch.

Sounds to me like the Purple wire should connect to the neutral safety switch and the Orange Wire should Connect the the Ignition switch. Which terminal Is another question.

If it helps, I could try to find a good interior harness at Budget Wrench next month.

And that could be, this is why we are asking for a schematic. He's gonna have a cool truck if they can get past this issue and some other minor things. I'd like to see this kid get some wheels, then he can come over here and help me with my stuff and get some education on how to do his own stuff.

That's kinda what I was thinking too Retro. I was gonna see about the harness off the 81 that I just took off that truck I scrapped. But the 81 does not use the multifuncion switch, so the wipers and dimmer switch are in differant locations etc. It would be cool to find a 84-86 underdash harness, and that should fix them up with the right plugs to all the switches and **** on the steering column etc.

It will probably be 2 weeks before I get to go there but if I find something, $15 plus shipping.

Just have them jumper the wires to where they think they go with a FUSED JUMPER WIRE till they find the correct place

Cool. Hopefully Mr.Smom and Sportsmom will read this thread by then and let us know. I'm sure if they don't have it figured it in 2 weeks, they'll probably want that done. I think a good schematic will help alot though, I don't think they are dumb, just need a road map of where to start and where to go. If we could see where things went and where they were cut from, it would be much easier, but space is very limited up in there around and above the column.

Sounds to me like either someone tried to hotwire it, or had an alarm/remote start installed at one time.

They were thinking someone tried to hotwire it too, but you're right, it could have alarm/remote start and they removed it to take it with them. That would also be why the headlights don't work too. Usually headlights will get wired through the alarm too so they flash.
