i decided to go with a 4l80 in my crew and that leaves my nv4500 without a home.

i am thinking about building another truck and puttin my 203/205 doubler behind my nv4500 in that truck i think that would be sweet.

as far as i know no square bell housing can work with the nv4500 the center bearing support is bigger on a nv4500

and no the shifter from a sm465 will not fit you could cut it off and weld it to the base of the 4500 shifter for the same look

the NV4500 "DOUBLER" is what i swapped into my 83' K20, it came from the factory with a 700R4/NP208,then i went to a T350/NP205,then to a hydro clutch SM465/NP205 , and now the 5 speed doubler behind a Cummins , most of these trans swaps are fairly easy, just a matter of collecting all the parts

I believe I have a single piece driveshaft, yes to swapping into a k5 and I would prefer hydraulic clutch. If I find a tranny and tcase together I'll use it if not I got the 208 and a 241 to use if they mate.

The NV4500 uses a 32 spline rear output shaft.

So only 79-85 205s with a circular 6 bolt pattern will work. The circular 6 uses 32 splines where as the race track figure 8 uses 10 splines.

As for 208s or 241s its the same thing they need to be a 32 spline from behind either a Th400, 4L80 or 80-88 SM465. Or you need to rebuild them, swapping in the proper 32 spline input gear.

The 700r4 cross member can be retained for use with the swap as it is the same cross member used from 85 on

To mate the NV4500 to a 205 you most likely will have to modify the adapter for shifter linkage clearance. Or/and use a spacer Advance Adapters p/n 56-6910 http://www.manualsdir.com/manuals/550759/advance-adapters-50-6910.html

To mate the NV4500 to either the 208 or 241 just simply use the stock adapter.

Also the 95-2003 use the higher first gear ratio for better DD use.

The 95 uses a different bell housing to transmission pattern and bell housing index diameter than the 96-2003 transmissions.

Gear ratios: GM NV4500

93-94 = 6.34:1, 3.44:1, 1.71:1, 1:1, 0.73:1

95-up = 5.61:1, 3.04:1, 1.67:1, 1:1, 0.73:1

Didn't do the nv4500. A friend had a parts k5 and I got the sm465 for free so it was a no brainer. Swap went great everything transferred from mt 700r4 to sm465 no problems

You must have had a different transfer case heh? To fit the 32 splines of the SM465?

Not sure. The 700r4 trans was replaced at one time already so not sure I was just glad it fell into place

Oh ok. Well the 700r4 transfer case definitely wont fit an SM465! Maybe somebody replaced the 700r4 with a TH400. That would make more sense.

Well, I hate to bump a dead thread...
Hey all. 78 GMC Stepside (Desert Fox) 35x12.50 18's 5.0 .30 over mild cam. Cracked built 350 tail case while 4xing. Was going to swap case but I also have a sm420, sm465, nv4500, and the 1/2 ton 5sp (not sure what it is?) I have tcase for all trans besides the 420. I nearly positive the 203 attached to the 350 is what cracked the case. I'm simply done with autos. I want a reliable trail rig, I abuse this beauty and she keeps on trucking.
I've heard the 465 tends to "lock-up" on trail, also hear problems of aluminum bell housing cracking and/or clutch coming apart and ripping through. (guessing this is under high horsepower like drag strip?) I'd like to use the 465 with the 203, but finding an adapter? Seems nearly impossible. I'm also missing bell housing for the 465 and would only go cast.

I got a 1979 k10 with a 383 stroker, a muncie 4speed, and a 208 tcase. I want to put a nv4500 in. I have a hydraulic clutch setup but it is crap. Can I take the whole clutch system out of the 90's truck I will get the trans from and swap everything in? The pedals, actuator, slave cylinder, trans with my 208? Also. What else do I need to know before diving into this project?
