Is the SM465 trany like the 700r4 compatible with both 2wd and 4wd trucks. I might have to find a 4wd 4 speed grany trany for the 4wd chassis swap. Meaning there was a 2wd and 4wd version of it.

how is a 700r4 compatible with 2wd or 4wd the whole shaft would have to be changed to a shorter one. probably the same for a 465. I know the th350 is the same yea it'll work in a 4x4 but you have to have the short shaft and not short as in the 6 inch tailshaft we're talking maybe 3 inches if that.

yea you gotta have the right length tailshaft, same for a th350 or 400 and the sm465 too. They all came in four wheel drives as well as 2wds.

Absolutley !!! Must have the right output shaft to bolt up to the adapter, then adapter bolts to the Tcase. What are you trying to accomplish???

I found a K2500 8 lug chassis for 200 bucks just the 4wd manual version of the sm465 trany L-1-2-3-R. Its all for the 90 C2500.

exactly right and some more info for you the t-case adapter for the th350 is the exact same for the 700r4 if it's a 4 bolt tailhousing, which is all I've ever seen, but heard they have a 6 bolt 700r4.

So if you got a truck with a 700r4 and t-case you can bolt up a th350 if it's the right shaft length, and vice versa.

However the th350's case is shorter then the 700's case, but the point is you can use the adapter for either transmission.

I have a th350 in my 88 in place of a 700r4.

awesome and squarebodies had both 2wd and 4wd sm465's so you should be able to find the right tailshaft and housing to make it work. Find a 2wd version for parts and swap the rear shaft and tailhousing on it. Not unless you want it to be a 4wd? if so then you just bolt up your motor and go.

Run with it Dave. I think you confused us when you threw 700r4 into the question. No need to throw 700r4 into the question if you 90 has a 2wd SM465, and you newly acquired frame has a 4wd SM465. Its not rocket science to use the 4wd SM465 with your project and rock with it !!! :grd: home dawg !!!

Im not 100% positive but the SM465's have a different main shaft between 2 and 4 wheel drive. I also found out the hard way the 4x4 versions have 2 different length main shafts, the early ones are short and the later models are long.
