Olds 350

While going through my stuff I found something I will never use. I was told it's an Olds 350 block, crank, and complete heads. I know nothing about Olds motors and I don't know what machine work (if any) has been done to these. It's been sitting and I think the cylinders at least need honed. $100 for everything.

Look on the exhaust side of the heads for a # usually a single digit, it can help put and age on it, and the lower the digit the more valuable/rare they can be.

Still have these parts if anyone is interested. When it starts to get warm they will be in my way and it would be good to see them get used by someone.

Is there a re "D" or "DX" cast on the side of the block ? Number on the corner of each head (4,5,6,7,etc..), casting number on the cast crank (and does it have 3.0" main journals ) ?

That makes it about trash. By the time you pay for a line bore, you could buy a used core.

I can tell you whatever you want to know about it. And it's even easier than Chevrolet. If the heads have BIG #,s on them they are small block heads, if it's Big Letters, they are big block heads. What big # is on the heads? You're hoping for a #1 thru #4. If it's 5 or anything with an A after the # they are smogger junk heads. On the block, what is the big # or Letter right there by the Oil Fill Tube? By the letter on the block you can tell a basic year model and if it's a Windowed Main motor or not and not very sought after all. In fact, you try to avoid windowed main motors.

Heads have a big 7 on the outside (exhaust side). The undersides (intake) have a small 4 and a 177.

The block has by the oil fill tube 395558 followed by a big 2. I forgot to look at the side of the block and measure the crank.

And I know it needs line bored, but I think Olds motors are hard to find here? I have a Chevy 350 that also has the caps mixed up (same buddy took that one apart too) and I know it's not worth the trouble. Unless I want to eventually build something with splayed 4 bolt mains.

Ok, I'll stand down. It's worthy of working over. The block is a 68-70 block, not windowed mains. It might very well be worth the $250 for a line bore, but I forget what you're asking too.

The heads aren't bad either. Should be 70-71 heads.

Those look pretty clean, have they been machined recently or long ago and just not assembled? If part of the machine work is done already, like a new bore, just needing freshened up with a clean hone then someone might be interested. Someone may not even give a rats ass about the mains being off, and intend to buy splayed mains and 4 bolt it since no Olds came 4 bolt mained being they didn't need to.

You really oughta consider building that. An Olds 350 will out perform a SBC 350 any day of the week. Now it's not cheap, and with a 383 stroker that will give the SBC 350 the edge to spank the Olds 350, but Olds motors will tolerate more abuse and last longer.

You're fuggin 910 miles away from me.

We need to figure out a friggin parts relay system for all of us. I hope someday to be able to take a wierd vacation and do some parts swapping and buying. So when I win the lottery and can afford gas.... I'll go up north through KS, MO, NE cut accross East to Ohio, PA and drop down south to the Ginias, make sure I stop by Daves' for a riding mower, come back across Bama, Loosyanna, through Texass, NM into AZ. to Cali up the coast to Northen Cali pick up Jims Burb, in Washington come across the Dakotas into CO through NW OK and back home to OKC. Man would I have some good **** by the time I made that trip and get to meet just about everyone. Prolly only cost $4K in fuel.
