I WAS going to change my oil. Glad I paid attention to the oil filter BEFORE I pulled the drian plug. I forgot this 85K1500 has an oil cooler on it, so it takes a different filter that I don't have here in stock. And the damn thing is right up against the header so I can't even get a wrench or oil filter socket on it. I guess I used my jaws of life on it last time. Fuggin O'Reilys' isn't showing the filter I need, they just show all the standard filters. This one looks skinnier and shorter than the OE filter. Prolly the same filter 89s uses.

Put on new header gaskets, took rear door cards off and used some graphite lube on the power windows and the lock linkages. I think I need some type of bushings on the lock linkages because they are still really stiff to lock manually and takes 2-3 hits of the power locks to lock or unlock.
Also noticed when I pulled the header gasket that my oil pressure sender is leaking so it looks like I have my next task as well.

Got my oil changed on the 85 K1500 for another 10,000 miles. Already had the Oil and Filter in stock from when O'Reily's had a super deal on 5qts of Full Synthetic and Mobil 1 Filter for $21.99 IIRC. It was limit 2 on this deal, but I stopped in there 3 different days that week.
Kinda sux though. I had to exchange the filter for the M1-111 which is half the height to clear the headers with the oil cooler adapter making the full size filter to long.

Supposedly not any different than conventional, BUT I know a little more about oil than most do. Apparently Driver knows more than most do too, unless he's puking cuz he likes it so much he drinks it.


I keep my motors clean, maintain them well since being low mileage motors and change my oil much less often than most do. When I use conventional oil and a good filter, I'll change it every 5,000 miles and if it's alot of highway driving, I'll even push it closer to 6,000. It it's hard miles like stop and go city driving, towing, or off roading in dirty environments, then I'd change it around 4,000.

If I use Full Synthetic and a Very Good Quality filter, I'll go up to 10,000. Usually between 8,000-10,000. And I don't use Synthetic Blends at all, unless it's as cheap as conventional oil and then I'd use it the same as Conventional and change it every 4,000 - 6,000 dependiing on the type of mileage. The reason being, all a manufactuer has to do to call their oil Semi Synthetic is add a teaspoon of Synthetic and then it can be called Blended and you pay for it.

DOH, Oh yeah, I put new Bosch wiper blades on the 85 K1500 today too, along with cleaned the windshield and did a Rain X treatment. I love that stuff. Usually try to do it about every 3-4 months.

I refuse to run synthetic oil. Ive seen to many engines fail to get lubricated with the ****.

Whoa !!! For Real??? Remind me, if I swing by your house, don't offer me any of your Kool-Aid. Fram TG Filter??? By any chance do you ever cut them apart after changes???
