You're not in CA either. It's a whole different animal with the strict regulations. If it were a pre-75 rig I would definitely say do whatever, but even then, if I recall correctly you still have to pass to get it registered, so there we fall back to having factory installed components, whether to pass as an original setup or having all of the modern bits and pieces which is even more stringent than the old stuff, just more readily available.
"Not in california" is a whole different discussion. What I said is specifically BECAUSE it is california. You can upgrade to a newer model year engine as long as it is in the same or better emissions category and you transfer ALL emissions equipment. So that would be the entire exhaust from the manifolds to the second O2 sensors and the vapor recovery system. All of those components bolt right into a square. That's where I got all the things I put on my 1980 K25 pickup.

All he needs to do is find a donor that he wants to use and then take his VIN number and the donor VIN number down to the smog referee. Run the plan by the referee and they will bless it off or say you need to adjust the plan. Once everything is done, you take the finished product into the referee and they will put an emissions label on the truck saying it is legal. There are several threads on this forum and on GMT-400 forum discussing this exact procedure.

A lot of discussion amongst the regulars like normal, and the newb has disappeared
Maybe we should change new member posting to be like new member classifieds. They can post replies, but can't ask questions about their own truck for 50 posts.

As Redfish stated. It would probably cost considerably more money and WAY more time to try and find all original parts. I would LS swap it. Less time, probably less money, and you get 20+mpg.
Is somebody here getting 20+mpg in their LS swapped square? I guess with 2.73s and highway driving it might be possible. My LS/4.11s would need 300 miles of downhill to get that kind of mileage.

He got it with power windows back in '84 even the rear window. I don't remember the rear window being an option for power.

I remember in 1983 trying to order the most basic vehicle possible because I didn't want stuff to break and knew I'd be keeping the truck (which I still have).
No AC, Rollup windows, manual trans, I even tried to get manual steering if you can imagine. The only options I got were heavy duty front springs in case I plowed and a sliding rear window instead of AC. I screwed up and should have ordered lower gears, those 3:08's were terrible and I was burning thru clutches. I had 4:11's installed.

There were aftermarket power rear windows. When OP said that, I just assumed it was dealer installed or the dealer sent it to a local accessory shop before it was delivered.

I'd imagine so. I was able to get over 18 mpg with my '84 305, th350 and 2.56:1 gears. But only if steady 55mph driving. 65-70 mph got me mid 14mpg.

I had an 86 SB in 89 and do remember seeing aftermarket power sliders available. Sounded cool, but the clip is by my right ear. If I needed it to be powered, I would have bigger issues to tend to. Maybe Steven Hawkins would need it but then why would he be driving a SB anyways?

Should be very doable in a 2wd as long as you swapped the overdrive transmission in at the same time. A non-lockup, non-OD transmission and 4.10's will kill mileage in a hurry. I believe @TotalyHucked has driven his all over the country with an LQ4. I've gotten 20mpg in my 2011 Suburban on the highway with a 5.3 and that thing weighs 7400lbs. A C10 squarebody is going to be half that weight.

I've been stopped in Kansas for having the wrong Kansas County tag on my car when I moved down here. I was going to wait until tags expired to register in Linn County, but got pulled over and warned. You have 30 days from the time you change your residence to register in your county.
You’ve mentioned similar things in the past that make KS sound petty and overbearing. Was it factory wheels on a squarebody in order to register it or something silly like that?

I don't think that was Rick, but I do recall what you're referring to. I am thinking it was a member further east that needed the stock wheels to pass inspection. I may be wrong, though, and not afraid to admit it if I am.
