Painted the wheels dark grey and put my other center caps back on, removed the wheel molding for now, removed the pinstripes and put the rust free fender on.

I got around to changing the trans fluid. What I found is not what I expected. Any way I installed the new pan and filled it up. it’s still shifting fine. I figure I’ll drop the fluid again in a week or so and see how it looks. Apparently some dumb azz installed the previous filter upside down. Who could that have been! Continuing the black theme.

I also finally got around to finding the true TDC on this combo. In the past I have had the timing much retarded, and today it was much advanced. I bought a new piston stop lost my old one somewhere. This engine has an aftermarket balancer,a different cover , and a different timing tab. I think the original timing tab was lined up at 12 o’clock and it had the tube looking down behind the H2O pump. I found that at 4 degrees on the balancer the engine is at TDC . My timing was set at 8 degrees advanced with the new mark it was 12 with me using the zero mark. I connected the vacuum advance and it went to 40! . I disconnected the vacuum advance and checked the mechanical. It also went to 40! This is a Vortech headed 350 with the ramjet roller cam. I bumped the initial down to 4 and am going to send it, and see how it runs. It looks like I will have to do some dizzy work to get the mechanical where it should be. I’m thinking 30 to 32 , total on the mechanical. I would like 8- 10 initial. More to follow.
I had to modify the piston stop. You can see where the piston just touched the screw. It was almost all the way in. I was afraid I would drop it in the cylinder!! The piston is way down in the bore. You can see my old paint marks I was off with both of them. 4 degrees using the zero mark and 6 using the 10 degree mark. My using the stop you can see a mark on the 30 degree mark and the other one close to the vertical line. It was 3” inches between them. At 1. 5 inches the mark is at 4 . Hope this helps someone understand how to find TDC on a unknown or non stock build.
