Last year i managed to score a period correct Lund Visor off eBay. It came off a baby blue 1974 c10 short bed.

I’ve always loved these on square body trucks so I pulled the trigger and paid $300 bucks for it.

I’m curious how most people have installed theirs, most importantly doing it in a fashion that doesn’t cause damage to the truck.

My idea was to use nutserts with ether stainless or titanium hardware to they don’t rust and look like dog **** after 3 months in the weather. Was also thinking of using a sealing adhesive when bolting it to the truck so I could stop any water migration into the came creating rust.

Really looking for insight and tried and true ways of installing this rad piece!

You've pretty much got it. Just have to make sure you don't bottom out on the inner panels.

If I had the time, at the time, I would have used nut serts to reinstall the visor on the 86. As it was I got some larger stainless screws and some rubber washers and a little rtv and just screwed it back down thru the existing holes. Some with redneck helicoils. (A piece of copper wire to help the threads grab better. )
It holds and it doesn’t leak. Yet. 5 years and mostly garaged but out in the rain enough to know it’s not leaking. Not the best long term setup for sure. Do it your way would be better.

Thought about getting a Lund visor too and I have thought about the same course of action but I would like to know how well the 3M red acrylic adhesive tape would hold if used instead of drilling. I have placed ABS items, but not fiberglass, on vehicles hoods before and the tape was strong as heck (with proper cleaning of course) and no failures so...

I would not trust any adhesive alone to hold on anything that sees air moving over/thru it. I could see with my luck it would let go and hit someone/thing. Rivets and/or nut serts are your friend.

I would use adhesive applicator on the metal first before putting the the 3m tape.

Thats how I installed the spoiler on my wife’s K5 and that thing will NOT move at all lol it’s stuck stuck

A) Grasp Lund Visor firmly in right hand.
B) Open garbage can lid firmly with left hand
C) Toss visor in can after lid is removed
D) Re-install garbage can lid. Job complete!

Im in the same boat with my s10, i thought nutserts too. Also found there is a certain actual sequence amd measurement to putting them on.

I used to hate them, western WA/OR, Nor-Cal and British Columbia they were just leak-rust-rot inducers. Here in the independent 3rd world nation of “The Land Between the Ditches”, I mean, western 1/3rd of TN… They actually come in handy. I’d prefer a miniaturized Pete 379 style louvered stainless steel version over fiberglass, but…

$300 for a used Lund is crazy money. Less than that brand new on Evilbay, Scamazon, Summit, Jeg’s, hell even Temu has them… Now if you need period correct patina it makes sense, I guess, maybe.

My wife’s (gave it back to her, can’t stomach 2wd trucks) 85 C10 is slated to get a visor this spring. And every other JC Whitney puked on it “shiny” that she and our ought as well be daughter decide they “can’t live without”. 6/8 drop, cab visor, running boards, tri-bar spinners on body color center caps, cab grab handles, 40 Ford style ribbed stainless trim rings, polished tailgate band, period correct colormatched canopy with polished stainless boat rack, polished stainless tube grille, led lights… And factory 85 only 2 tone, but in bass boat glitter dark cherry candy over white pearl, natch… :)

And THAT is what matters. YOU like it, it will go well with YOUR truck, and it was because you could, not because you were chasing the latest Squarebody fad.

I have a couple “patina piles”, don’t have to worry about rock chips, shopping cart dings, or fingerprints on perfect paint at a show. Drive to cars and coffee, park up, open doors and hood and any kid that wants to “drive” is welcome to.

Enjoy your truck my friend.

They don’t fit that well to even begin to trust 3M tape. Not even a viable option with this piece imo.
