I mean - not that I'm aware of.

Sometimes people surprise me but I am not aware of any tally of production volumes for square body trucks. The common understanding is that they were lost in a fire (although - I don't remember any "fire", either).

The only number I know is that we used a temporary deviation to build 100 MM7/MY6 trucks in Flint early in the 1987 model year. My truck is one of those 100.

I do not know if other trucks were built in 1987 in other plants, or if the faucet was turned back on in Flint later in the model year.

So - no.

Keith - we need more details on the transmission please ! read your post on speccing and buying your truck new - that was so cool!
The 833 4 speed with O/D gears was a New Process box used in the dodge muscle cars of the time no? I never heard of them being available in GM trucks - only the NP465 and the old Muncie car 4 speeds ( M21 etc ).
Can you get a bell housing to fit an 833 to a GM engine? does anyone have any info on how these fit up ( mounts, shifter, etc. )- assume they could use a regular GM manual truck set up with a but of tweaking ??

I think biggest hurdle with them at this point is they're mostly unobtainium.

They came from the factory in GM trucks, you need to find a truck a pirate everything, bellhousing, transmission and shifter. They came in 2 versions cast-iron and aluminum a shifter for one is like gold. They are not exactly the same as the Crysler box they have a different input shaft and have a very strange gear spread, 3and4th gear are swapped on the main shaft. Are you trying to put a Dodge box on a 454?

Not really - I am a manual man, and always interested in manual conversions for the BBC or SBC for 2wd "sport truck" applications ( not towing or hauling ).
Never heard of the Chryco 833 fitted in a GM truck before tho'. Really interested to know more, although current conversion offerings seem to be Tremec ( 4050 or T56 etc. ).
Interested in everyones thoughts on "old v. new " boxes, eg. muncie M21 or 833 v. modern day Tremec or Getrag, for driveability and "ruggedness" I guess, what will stand up to the torque ...
There are so many options now. Have read various views on the NV4500. (I have a 3500 in my 1990 swb.) Tremec swaps, etc. etc.
What manual box option should GM have offered with the 1990 454SS ??

np833a trans gear ratio is 3.09 first, 1.76 second, 1:1 third, and .73 OD fourth. very similar to the 700R4. the bell housing PN:14061655 used to be available from wheeler bros. inc. VSE corporation 409 drum ave, somerset, PA 15501. i had to buy a bellhousing to replace the broken one that was in my truck. the trans is quite strong, the main shaft is larger than the muncie trans. i have a 427CI BB eng, approximatly 500HP and 500 lbft torque. i drive my truck almost daily and enjoy the daylights out of it.

They came in 2 versions Aluminum case and Iron case. Which version are you runn8ng? According to the Mopar guys the Aluminum case flexes and the tear up under hard use. Also if you check with the Mopar crowd you can get a differentb1st/2nd gear set to make it more useful in a performance application.I was going to run 1 of these behind a 454 a while back but too many hurdles for my needs.

i have the aluminum case, passon performance in PA is a mopar trans specialist shop. and brewerperformance is where i bought bits and pieces for my trans. ie speedo gears and gaskets. finding a gm a833 is difficult. i have only seen 2 trucks with this trans in it and one of those is mine.

Yep Passion is who has the different 1st 2nd gear set. I was thinking I wanted to run this behind a 454. But I figured a 3.09 first gear would be worthless with 500lb ft. And just findin a transmission in the first place wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.
