Some of ya'll following on my other threads...I've got the 65 C10 with the 283 and it does great, drives as it should

But I've got my old engine back that me and dad had machined and put back together in the shed probably around 2009. 350 bored .030, flat top pistons, and later, a cam swap, vortec heads and intake. This engine ran in my red 85 C20 and then my white 84 K10 for a loooooong time and many miles. Never burned oil, smoked or any of that. Always ran Mobil 1, for better or worse

Hasn't ran in 5 years, just parked and sat.

Really like to put it in my 65 and use the 283 for my nephews squarebody build.

How should I go about this? Get it on a stand hooked up to a battery and check compression first? Guess I should've done that first. I could put the starter back in it and check it in the truck...Should I worry about the age/miles of the build if the compression is sound? No burnouts or any of that just a fun engine

Ultimately I'd like to add a cam that would make some power with the heads and pistons but am I really looking at being able to make enough power for it to be rowdy with stock bottom end and these ol vortec heads?

Engine as it sits today, I'll have it out soon

All you need to do is prop the engine up with some wood bolt a starter to the block and hook a battery to the starter to run compression.

Change the oil, filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, stab it and run the darned thing. You know it's a runner, so run it
