Did I ruin this pinion bearing?

For press and interference fits I like to slick the surfaces up with some high pressure lube, just a real light film coating. I use the J&S stuff, but the CMD product is good too. You can really feel a difference with and without using it.

I’m too late but wanted to tell you to put it in with the burner bearing just to check depth so when you go to put on another bearing you can change the shim if required.

This is what I did with mine. I ordered two bearings and took a Dremel to the inside circumference of one of them and made a setup bearing. Glad I did because I had that pinion in and out about 100 times before I got it right.

Pinion in freezer and tap away or a press if you have one, those are easy

Try installing one of these monsters onto an assembly that weighs about 5 tons, god I hate my job some days.
BTW that bearing goes into a block that weights about 300lbs so it can move fore and aft and then that block goes on the shaft of the roll crusher. We use the wider one in the second pic the first is to just show how it fits in the outer race.

Very special radial bearing. For anyone that doesn't know, that style bearing allows a bent shaft to rotate freely without destroying the bearing. Bent shaft you say, well the load applied to the chain or gear drive is so great, it flexes the shaft slightly when rotating.

David, by the size of that bearing, you must be working on very large equipment!

We have three massive crushers that run those spherical bearings the drums are 4'x4' and weigh upwards of 5-6 tons each.

I'm an equipment operator (crane, front loader, bobcat) but I also do a majority of the maintenance and repair work.
