The STL pick n pull has core charges on certain items. The pick n pull experience I have found really depends on who is at the counter, some cashiers will charge you for every bolt, nut, and washer attached to something, others will look at what you got and say don’t worry about it sweetie.

More generally, with cores from retailers it is interesting how varied they can be. I’ve seen stuff that the core charge is higher than the part cost itself, then on the other hand stuff like the reman torque converter I put in the dart had an $8 core charge. I just kept the old one and ate the $8 charge lol.

Most of the cashiers at the Houston LKQ's are female... sometimes they're more easygoing than others. I've had them try to nickel and dime me, and I've had times where I just got charged for most of the bigger items. When I first was going to the U Pull And Pay I was getting amazing deals, because they were a lot cheaper than the LKQ's. Last couple years their prices are closer. The U Pull And Pay used to have at least one discount day a month; they haven't done that this year except for a sale on Memorial Day and I think they had a discount on July 4th but I don't remember. The LKQ's are having a 3 day Labor Day weekend sale, 50% off. I wanna hit all three but we'll see. I'm off Saturday and Monday but gotta work on Sunday....

Went into more detail in my build thread, but figured I'd post here too for more eyes...

'99 L29 454 for my Suburban.
Full accessory drive, exh manifolds, and complete long block.
Just a touch over $400 out the door.

Also seen in this a little, a set of 265/70-17 Wildpeaks for @Catbox 's Suburban, as it is in need of new and better looking tires.
Those were like $130 out the door.

Warn premium hubs off an '87 Suburban 1/2 ton.

Unknown brand/lift front lift springs off a different '87 Suburban, this time 3/4 ton.
Only brand I've been able to find that makes partially military wrapped springs like this is BDS 4", but any other info would be greatly appreciated.

No more old school walk the yard places around me the only ones left either crush/shred everything as it comes in or are newer vehicles say 2000 and up and none of them let you pull your own stuff, stuck doing the craiglist/ebay/marketplace deals for old stuff.

My buddy Bernard and I went to check out some squares at the local LKQ this afternoon. Actually there are 3 pickups and a late Burb there, we were mainly looking at a 74 and 85 C10 longbeds that came in this week. While I was checking to see what I could find in their OBS/400 offerings, I found the other two. Burb is an 88-91 V1500, still has the 350 and axles in it but the interior is mostly there, it's gray cloth. I think it must've had buckets and console because the front row is gone but the second row is there and in pretty decent shape. Bernard was thinking about it for his 75 stepside which has a plain bench, but I showed him how the folding action works and we both decided it'd be easier for him to get a seat like my 97 Crew Cab has(60/40 split bench, which is chair height and very comfortable). Sorry, no pictures, but I'm thinking about going back out there on Wednesday IF I can get the door on my DD fixed, to grab some stuff I didn't have the $$ for today. Cost all my ready cash for the 3 parts I got....
This 74 longbed looks like a truck somebody fixed up and cared about, then either something happened to the owner or they took it for a better paint job and realized how rusty it was. Cab is VERY rotten around the upper door jambs..... grille is still there but might be rusted or welded in place.
They just set it out Thursday morning and all the good stuff was gone when we got there around noon today. But I DID score this, cause whoever got the other parts didn't know how to get it out(unplug the big harmonica connector on the backside!). Some of the mounting ears are busted off, and the prndl pointer is gone, but the rest of the gauges appear to be good except for needing needles repainted. The dashboard was spray painted white so there is lots of overspray on the gauge lens, but I think that will clean up with plastic polish and patience. Oil pressure gauge is mechanical too, I couldn't get the line unscrewed from the back so I had to cut it. Printed circuit looks good too.... Tomorrow I'll pull the lens off and get more pictures.

I also picked up an underhood reel light off that Burb, I think the assembly is the same as the early OBS trucks use....they started using these in the late 60s? And got the second row floor mat , gray and looks almost new. Will post more pics tomorrow....

Here's a couple of pics of the instrument cluster with the lens off. Two of the mounts on this broke off but those will be included with purchase.

LMC has the lens, but I'm sure the 3m headlight restoration kit would be cheaper.

Found two 88-94 center consoles at the SW Houston LKQ today; the blue one is the rare dished lid that's only on some 94 Burbs. It's nice and complete, just needs a little bit of cleaning.
