I bought a new cable from Autozone and it was also about 24", which was (if IIRC) about 4" too long. Its got a loop/spiral in the section from the firewall to the carburetor bracket, because that seems to be where it has the extra length, but all the plastic fittings snapped into place and it works fine.

Thanks for the info. If replacements are longer, then I will keep my original one since it is still working. Looks to be original but still working.

Still want to give to someone since I was refunded and am not going to be using it. Heck....I'll ship free too. Can't be that expensive for shipping. Just want to pay it forward.

Thanks. I'll have to pass right now. I had no idea there were so many different cables.

Bringing this one back up instead of starting a new one.

I just replaced the accelerator cable on my 85 K1500. I assume the cable that was on it was the original one and it had the big loop in it between the firewall and the carb, making it appear too long. The new one fits the same. I assume that is how it is meant to be so there's plenty of slack when the engine moves.

My real concern with this new cable is that I could not get the plastic clip to pop in at the firewall with the supplied rubber gasket installed.
I wound up removing the rubber gasket and cut a thinner one out of gasket material. That's the only way I could get the clip to pop in.
I had tried running fishing string under the ears on the clip and feeding it through the firewall so I could pull on it from inside the cab. That didn't work.
I got a piece of 7/8" diameter thin wall tubing and cut a notch out of the side so I could slip the tubing over the cable and hammer the tubing/clip from the engine side. All that seemed to do was flex my firewall.

Does anyone know of a trick to install these or possibly a tool?

I replaced mine on my 87. It was the very first thing I fixed amongst many things done wrong on my 87. Someone put it a used cable, it was way too long and bent more than 90 degrees. It was binding the cable inside and the gas pedal was so hard to press. I ordered a new one from Rock Auto or Napa I can't remember. It was very short compared to the one on there and fit perfect and made such a huge difference.

Here's what my original cable looked like. The new one fits the same.

Thats what I need to do. My pedal is a bugger to push. It hurts my old knee. I wonder if there are differences if the truck had cruise control? Mine did at one time. Long since removed.
