Not required but does make it easier.

I have thought about it but have not done any meaningful research on it. I do know that you'd want a tank where the filler neck is at the license plate so a tank from a car like an old Camaro, early 90's B Bodies, many cars from the 70's,..... that'd be your starting point then it'd be about planning out how to mount it in the rear. I'm sure it's doable with just a little planning and mild fabrication work :)

I wouldn't do that, those cars SUCKED when filling them...cant fill too fast.

I'm modifying my box to have a blazer fuel door in front of the tailight

My 91 Caprice with the fill up behind the plate was easy to fill up  no issues at all

the 90's cars might not have been bad, but the early 70's novas were terrible. I worked in a gas station as a kid. Some lady drove her POS 4 door ventura in during a heavy rainstorm...shoved $5 out a window barely cracked open...the nozzle clicked off several times before I even hit $3 bucks...I dumped the rest on the ground.....

Lol...I was a kid with a bad attitude back then. I would not think of doing something like that now. I would not classify myself as a tree hugger but I do care a lot more about the environment now and try to do my part within reason.

If I hadn't added it yet in this thread, will do so now. After having a 40 gallon Burb tank and taking measurements, I don't think the 40 gallon is a safe fit for even a longbed pick up. I won't be doing it. I'd do the 31 gallon tank as done here since it's 7 inches shorter in length than the 40 gallon.

I'm replacing my tanks with plastic universals(Becuase the old ones are rusted out). New original tanks are hard to find down here. I need range for my truck, having some plans for putting in even bigger ones or a third one. If I could fill it up once then run continously for about 1300km(800 miles?) I'd be very happy.
Thanks for the write-up!

While at the yard the other day I stumbled across a gas tank shaped like a box. Kinda like a fuel cell. It was said to be out of a f250 I started thinking about getting it as everyone wants $100 for a used burb tank. I'm looking around but no luck. Anyone in the dfw know where to find a cheap tank and sending unit ?

I used blazer x members to put the blazer tank in my crew cab

I had to modify the front one a little. basically I cut the ends off moved them up 2'' and welded them back on and braced them

the truck frame steps up over the rear axle where the blazer one is straight that's why I had to modify the x member

worked really well used stock blazer x members straps and tank

 There's all kinds of obstacles between the rear of the truck to the original filler location to make that idea near impossible :D

I think the obstacle is the tank. a custom tank would make this project much easier and would allow for proper use of the original fuel doors

I also don't like how close the tank is to the rear bumper. IMO that's just as dangerous if not more so then the saddle tanks.
