I watched some youtube videos including the ones posted in this thread. I used a new gasket, the Precision one with the lock strip. I got it from Rockauto I think. I ordered a ~$20 windshield installation kit from Amazon which included the lock strip tool, and I bought a can of silicone lubricant spray locally. Going very slowly and methodically, and getting a second set of hands when needed, I placed the gasket on the windshield frame, set the windshield on it and slowly worked it into the gasket, giving it generous sprays of silicon lube. It eventually just popped right in. Then got the lock strip started at the bottom center and went all the way around with it using the amazon tool, again using silicone spray.

Gotta do my rear window. Remove the slider that's froze up on the driver side and super loose and rattly on the passenger side. And put in a standard rear window and seal. I don't think the slider was original but put in when the rear window was probably broken at some point when I pulled the Vinal floor there was glass all in behind the seat and down in the cab corners.

The new window and seal have been sitting in the garage for like 2 months.

Eventually I'll do the windshield, but I'll just call someone to come out and put it in.

Fwiw, we installed the windshield first and then the back window.
The windshield was IMO quite difficult although I feel like we could have been better at it. Actually quit the first day and walked away before one of us broke it or something else!
The back window by comparison was much easier. The window popped into the gasket without much fuss. (Which was the hard part on the windshield). The only difficultly I recall on the back window was getting the corner clips in fully without mangling them.
I’d do a back window again tomorrow. But the 77 needs a windshield and I’m seriously considering having someone else install it. Removal is easy.

Then got the lock strip started at the bottom center and went all the way around with it using the amazon tool, again using silicone spray.
Great write up. Silicone spray is the real secret weapon and starting the lock strip at bottom center is the right call. Once done run your finger along the entire lock strip to make sure nothing is sitting proud then do a water test with a garden hose before driving to confirm no leaks. Small weep anywhere just needs a dab of silicone sealant behind the gasket at that spot.

I haven't done a gasketed windshield in a long time, but first one I did I made a tool just for it. I took a long fairly skinny straight screwdriver, the kind you used to get at the hardware store for 99c. I heated the end and bent a little more than 90* so if you had it in your hand you could look down and see the the end of the screwdriver tip.I also ground a polished all sharp corners and edges off of it. When you come to a hard spot, you can reach behind the weather strip with the screwdriver tip, wiggle and pull the handle and pull the lip over. Makes the job a lot easier.

Dude, please use dawn dish soap and water to install you windshield. Makes it really slick lots of soap. It helps the rubber won’t dry it out and it makes things go super easy. Glass cleaner is great but takes a lot and drys to fast. Spray bottle of soap and water makes the job super easy. Be careful not to nick the edge of glass. Good luck.
