Where can I get this bearing for my Automatic locking hub?

Where can I get the small bearing that rides on the outer end of the auto-locking hub?
The hub itself has worked almost flawlessly for 42 years, I really don't want to switch to manual.
It still works even with the broken bearing but I'd like to get it replaced - no luck on Ebay.

Search for a large lumber mill in your area. They usually have a dedicated bearing company next door that does nothing but supply bearings to that factory. They will sell to the general public, but are mainly there just to fill the factory or mill's needs. They have (or can) get any bearing known to man, which is why they can survive on just one high demand customer.

I used to get go-kart wheel bearings from a place like that.

There's a lot more industry that uses bearings besides a sawmill. But anyway, Motion Industries and Applied are a couple places to check. I'm doubtful that the correct bearing is offered by any manufacturer, but it's worth a shot.

Otherwise, finding used hubs as parts donors is a good option.

I've been to several of their locations and one of them actually wasn't set up to conduct business with walk-in customers. But, they were still willing to help me out with finding the correct bearings anyway.

Looks like part #6 & #7 are what you are needing. Unfortunately that seems to be NLA, unless there is new old stock somewhere.

Yes its items #6 Race, and #7 Bearing, really just the bearing.
It's the most delicate part in the assembly and in my case the bearing split into pieces.

It wasn't that many years ago I saw posts, maybe on this site for people who rebuild the assembly and sold them for a few bucks. There were so many people switching to manual hubs that there was plenty of auto hub spare parts to go around. Not anymore.

I use quite a few different bearings for equipment in my shop. For example, both my bandsaws take ten just for guides. Powermatic wants $200.00 for a set of ten.

To see if I could get them cheaper, I turned to my trusty calipers, took dimensions and was able order what I needed from a bearing company.

Instead of $200.00, eight cost me about ten bucks. Even ceramic versions were far cheaper.

That looks like the front axle bearing. My broken bearing is much smaller.
I could almost replace it with a # 4 AWG solid copper wire bent into a circle but I'd rather get the right part.

Your going to think I’m crazy but I had the same issue for my 87 go to a bicycle repair shop with your old bearings and they will fix you up it’s was the only place that had them I think it was a front fork bearing it fit and worked perfectly

No definitely not crazy, those of us who still own these older Chevys have to get creative, I like the idea! I have to admit it would be a stretch to find something that fit, I just don't have that kind of luck

I use Bearing Headquarters,or IBT and have had 99 percent success rate with any oddball crap I've needed. IDK if they have these local to you.
