Above the gas tank I have a number ton top of frame rails that the number says C9F362887... was wondering what it meant

That should be your vin code. Plug that number into a vin decoder and that should give you your answer.

The frame stamp is intended to be only a partial VIN.

From memory:

C= 2wd
9 = 1979 model year
F = Flint Assembly (final build location)
362887 = sequential portion of VIN
