Drove it back and forth to work again. Still trying to figure that noise out. Best way I can describe it is that at 55MPH on the speedo, or roughly 63 ish, it sounds like a twin engine boat or prop plane when the engine speeds kind of combine to make a different sound. Let off the gas, it goes away. Go below 55 indicated on or off the gas, it goes away.

Ideas are welcome.

On a somber note- no Asian looking strippers with side boob to eyeball going home.

Sun of a ********...

Random guess.... clutch fan???

Could be - I put a new one on early 2018ish, I think, but could be.

Devil's advocate - would that be narrow speed range related, and backing off the gas could immediately cause it to stop ?

Now where is your sense of adventure??

No chit !:D

Actually, I read where you can test them running (carefully ) with a newspaper, or probably a magazine. I hear the thing roaring on cold start up, and don't hear that noise until the speedo says 55, so really don't think that is it.

Could be wrong, and I will park her tonight until Saturday and the shop. If it is something like a rear end , don't want it to crap out on me on the highway.

My lack of desire to deal with unexpected failures overrides my sense of adventure .

Yup, I am old.

Well, and have other rides.

That all need something done on them, too, but I am procrastinating.

Eff it - syn oil can go for longer than a year...

:p

Still showing 40 something percent on the Balt oil life monitor.

Is it only speed related? Or is it rpm related? Noise only occur when vehicle in motion? This can help eliminate items if you can really pinpoint when noise happens.

Speed related and under load related. Tried putting it in second gear on the highway- did not seem to affect it. Only in motion. I wonder if a ujoint going bad could cause this.

I am used to hearing the bird chirp noise for those, but...

I had the window down the whole way home.
Can't really hear it that way, but roll up the window and you do, and I think I could feel something, too.

Rear end, or rear end bearing would also be on my list of suspects.

Back home safe and sound, so hopefully find out 1st of next week if not Saturday.

Come on down, but don't be skeered by the price ...

:)

Don't EXACTLY know what the value is on a 80 K1500 Burb but I got a good idea of what I have in it, and will once I get the heart transplant done. (Motor, in case of confusion)

I did have one guy talk to me about her when I pulled in to my Moms driveway a few weeks back.

I'd hate to sell her, but if someone offered the right amount I could start the search over.

Probably not going to happen , though. :Big Laugh:

That probably eliminate the fan clutch, might have someone ride in rear area of the burb to isolate noise heard coming from rear of vehicle
