The factory A/C in my '77 works perfectly fine. However, I will have the cab gutted to do a complete new interior. Has anybody put in this system https://vintageair.com/1973-80-chevrolet-pickup-with-factory-air-gen-5-surefit-complete-kit/ and if so, is it a worthwhile upgrade over stock? I see that it comes with a smaller glovebox insert. Are there any other tradeoffs as far as interior space? I'm curious as to if it helps reduce humidity better, like when the windshield would normally get condensation on the inside in certain conditions. Thoughts/feedback? Thanks.

If you have a perfectly working factory system I would stick with that. I put the Gen IV Vintage air in my 1981 non-ac cab. It definitely works great, coming from no AC. The down side I would say is it is pretty loud on full fan speed, and plus it doesn't draw in any outside fresh air as it is just the self-contained under dash unit. That means that in the winter sometimes I have to crack a window if I have just the floor heat on because the windshield can start to get condensation.

I put a vintage air system in my wife's 69 Mustang. It's worth every $, great AC and heating.

My '78 is an original AC truck but everything but the firewall box was gone..
I installed the VA gen 5 and am very happy with its performance.
