Well like the title says. I put in a 140a alternator today. Ran good for couple hours. Volt gauge at idle was normal but when driving would peg the gauge. Then she quit no spark. Now I know its either the pickup in the dizzy or the coil but did the New alternator cause it? Has anyone else done this upgrade? 76 k10. 350.

You might check your alt at the plug on the back. Sounds like something inside blew throwing too much voltage. The surge could have caused the dizzy to fail, too. Check your fuses, too.

Could have blown a fusible link. Not sure what is happening there. You got it wired up correctly?

Turned out to be the ignition control module. Voltage gauge is working the way it should now. Thanks.

No ****! Really? I got to go look at a schematic...

So what you think, the increase in voltage spelled the end for the worn out contacts in the ignition switch? I don't see any way it could have shorted out.

yup, seen that before. the ignition module is prolly the most overlooked and underaprieciated component in the whole HEI system

It must have. It was 37 years old and when I took it off there was no grease under it. As far as the upgraded alternator. Lights are much brighter and I can have everything electrical on and have no issues.
