I just need help figuring out the software side of things. I havent been able to pull any data yet

I'm open to any suggested program at this point, preferably free.

I've downloaded winaldl and tunerpro. But can't figure them out.

WinALDL is the best basic program for TBI (I assume it's for your '87).

You will need to configure it to your ECM and COM settings. And you will need to set the BAUD to 4800.

I had quite a time with it too.
You will need to go into,what I think is the definition files, for Your vehicle and get those files onto Your desktop, then import them from the desk top to TunerPro and then it will work.
I have it loaded in for My 88 Buick but I do not understand all of what it is suppose to do, then, I am afraid to change anything for fear of screwing up what is already a good running automobile.

Oh how I miss the days of paper clipping that 92 Lumina I had and counting the number of flashes of the CEL to diagnose a problem!!!

You won't change anything unless you're running a Moates Ostrich or something similar. All you can do in OBD1 otherwise is datalog.
