Has anyone installed, or know of an aftermarket heatshield that fits between the automatic transmission and tunnel? Finishing up my 87 V10 4x4 and without an interior or carpet I am getting a ton of heat radiating into the cab from the trans tunnel. Being in south Florida in the summer only makes it worse. I know there are universal heat shields that I can probably squeeze in there but if someone has had success and is willing to share what they did, that could save me a lot of trial and error. I have thermal heat guard I am going to lay on the floor before I put the interior in, but I want to keep the heat away from the metal of the cab as best as I can.

While we had the interior and drivetrain out of my son’s Yukon, we sprayed Lizard Skin vibration and heat barrier on both the top and bottom of the floor. Needless to say, it’s going to take a lot of time to remove the transmission and strip the interior to spray it.

It seems to work well.

Since your truck is together, I'd just do the normal stuff. I did Kilmat in my truck, got it off Amazon, very reasonably priced. Did the whole floor, back wall up to the rear window and up the firewall to the seam and also a couple pieces in each door. Did a double layer where your feet go and up the firewall for heat, and a double layer on the back wall for sound. Then covered the floor and back wall in Noico Closed Cell Foam, also from Amazon. I was very happy with all of this, even without AC, the truck was noticeably cooler and MUCH quieter

Maybe go to junkyard and try and find a muffler or converter heat shield to cobble in, or a couple of these or simialr:

I just purchased that product. I'll install that over the trans and up the firewall, I already have have the inside lined with kilmat. I'm going to put Noico heat and sound inulation on top of that. I'm guessing/hopeful this will solve the issue. Lets see how it goes. Thanks, JS

My carpet was a little baggy over the trans tunnel even with a layer of killmat, I added two layers of the aluminized insulation wrap between the carpet and tunnel.

I taped it all down with high temp aluminum duct tape.

Also check to see if your cab bushings are collapsed. When I replaced my cab bushings I was initially really confused because the cab got so much quieter.

Finally figured out that with the old bushings and two people in the cab, the cab body was sitting right on top of the transmission and transfer case, so every bit of drivetrain noise was transmitted to the cab. New bushings provided an air gap between the cab and the transmission.

I found much of the heat was coming from the exhaust headers and pipes. I used DEI exhaust wrap on mine, and it made a very noticeable difference in the temperature inside my cab. Well worth the money

The DEI tunnel shield is sticky! Make yourself a template with aluminum foil to avoid cutting the shield as much. Have another pair of hands to help hold and peel the backing.
Good to know. I knew it was sticky, didn't know if it were like a one shot kinda sticky lol
